Our library shelves have been quite bare as our school is old and we needed replacement books desperately; you have certainly helped in that matter! Having students find a love of reading during this age of technology is difficult, yet ensuring that their interests are available to them makes such a big difference. This is especially true when looking for biography materials as a young reader. Emma Havens Young was looking for reading materials to capture our Dolphin's interests' and peak curiosity! You have helped supply great resources for our students to learn more about the people who have made our world great, as they start an important history and social studies project! \r\n\r\nThrough donors' efforts, we were able to add the \"Who is...\", \"I am...\", and The Questioneers book series to our school library, which are all books pertaining to the biography genre. The new biography books that were purchased will be essential in helping my students complete their projects successfully, but will also help to further their love of reading. As many of my elementary students are completing a biography project for the first time, these new books will truly help students research the impact of important people's lives currently and throughout history. Students will become acquainted with a person who has impacted our world in some way and look at how important people can influence and provide opportunity for our future generations. This project really helps students apply insight to their own lives as they practice and fine-tune their reading and writing skills. \r\n\r\nAs Maya Angelou said best, \"Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.\" I have seen how the choice of a new book can positively affect my students' demeanor and I know that the additional resources will help that to grow even more! These biographies offer readers a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. By immersing themselves in the narratives of others, readers cultivate empathy, tolerance, and compassion, fostering personal growth and promoting a sense of interconnectedness. They will also be able to choose books that are of interest to them! The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. Emma Havens' Dolphins have already shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this funded project will only help enrich their reading experiences!
