As they explored the contents of their pellets, students were able to connect what they found—like tiny bones or fur—to the types of environments those animals come from. This helped them start thinking about how animals live in habitats that meet their basic needs, like food, water, shelter, and space. It also led to some great conversations about where owls live and how they fit into their ecosystems.\r\n\r\nAt the same time, the activity gave students a concrete experience to write about. Using sentence frames and graphic organizers, they wrote simple informational paragraphs that included a topic sentence, a few facts about what they discovered, and a closing sentence. It was a great way to reinforce the structure of informational writing in a fun and engaging way. Even students who sometimes struggle with writing felt confident because they had something real to say and share.","fullyFundedDate":1733246893574,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-my-students-dissecting/8748184/","projectTitle":"Let’s Get My Students Dissecting!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Donlon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6613607_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727440741224","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6613607"},{"teacherId":1051127,"projectId":8734117,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity! In addition, they have made my classroom management easier. I am no longer fumbling with white boards, markers and erasers. I will no longer have to purchase white board markers.
