This project asked students to think beyond sculpture and consider how art can merge with purpose. From a snow globe–inspired clock to a spiderweb design complete with detailed spiders and Roman numerals, students thoughtfully planned, built, and glazed original pieces that reflected their personal style. The donated clock mechanisms transformed their ceramic forms into real, working timepieces. As one student shared, \"We couldn't have done this project at all without the clock pieces.\" Your support truly made the entire experience possible.\r\n\r\nThe materials also elevated the artistic quality and depth of learning within the project. Students were excited to experiment with the wide variety of glaze and underglaze options, giving them more creative control and vibrant results. Several students reflected on how they learned the difference between glaze and underglaze for the first time, gaining a clearer understanding of surface design, layering, shine, and durability. One student explained that glaze helped them create designs that would not wash off, while another shared how much they enjoyed mixing colors to create \"prettier and more vibrant clocks.\" The opportunity to use professional-quality materials allowed students to explore techniques with confidence, take creative risks, and complete their largest ceramic project to date.\r\n\r\nBeyond the technical skills, this project sparked genuine excitement and pride. Students described feeling \"elated\" to move into the glazing stage and excited to try new colors and finishes. Even those who felt nervous at first about making mistakes were eager to challenge themselves. Because of your support, students were able to not only finish their clocks, but also glaze additional pieces such as pumpkins and ornaments, and proudly display their work at our art show. Your donation provided more than supplies—it provided opportunity, confidence, and the unforgettable experience of creating something both beautiful and functional. Thank you for investing in my students' creativity and in the continued growth of our ceramics program.","fullyFundedDate":1758845771649,"projectUrl":"project/tick-tock-lets-rock-in-clay/9578252/","projectTitle":"Tick-Tock, Let’s Rock… in Clay!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jordan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3204361_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y256&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718819884390","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3204361"},{"teacherId":3204361,"projectId":9559319,"letterContent":"Because of your incredible generosity, my Art 1 students were able to bring our Color Theory Explosion Book project to life using the Gelli plates, brayers, texture tools, and other supplies you provided. For many of my ninth graders, this was their very first experience with printmaking. When students learned that these materials had been donated, the classroom immediately filled with excitement. As one student shared, \"Without the supplies we wouldn't have even been able to do the project.\" Another expressed how happy they felt knowing they could \"try something new and create something that I could take home and show to my parents.\" Your support made something possible that otherwise would not have happened.\r\n\r\nThe impact went far beyond simply completing a project. Students created 12 or more unique prints, experimenting with complementary colors, warm and cool tones, and layering techniques in a hands-on and meaningful way. Having enough materials for everyone meant students didn't have to wait to participate—they were able to fully explore their ideas and take creative risks. One student reflected that the supplies allowed them to \"make any of my ideas happen,\" while another described how satisfying it was to roll the paint onto the Gelli plates and discover new color combinations through layering. They weren't just following directions; they were discovering a new art form and building confidence in their creative abilities.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your generosity is helping reshape our visual arts program. Many of these students had never experienced printmaking before, and now they are already asking to use the materials again to create even more advanced layered works. Through this project, they gained a deeper understanding of color theory and saw firsthand how creativity and experimentation can lead to beautiful, unexpected results. Because of you, our classroom is filled with color, collaboration, and pride. Thank you for making this joyful and transformative experience possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1758845773515,"projectUrl":"project/bursting-with-color-book-magic-a-gell/9559319/","projectTitle":"Bursting with Color & Book Magic: A Gelli Printing Journey","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jordan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3204361_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y256&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718819884390","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3204361"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6449","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":887,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":40,"percentWhite":41,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":52.9,"schoolId":6449,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Emerald High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Emerald High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/greenwood-school-district-50/emerald-high-school/6449"}
