Each afternoon, as we prepare for dismissal, I hand out the snacks so that every child has something nourishing to carry with them on their long bus rides home. For many of my students, this is more than just a quick bite—it's a moment of comfort, energy, and care that makes the end of their school day feel a little brighter. Just last week, after a math review game, my students grabbed their snacks before lining up, and I noticed how much calmer and more focused they were during dismissal. It's a small routine that's already making a big difference.\r\n\r\nThe very first time the kids saw the boxes come in, their eyes lit up. Some of them whispered to each other in excitement, while others asked if they could have one straight away. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're diving into a social studies project where students are creating their own \"community helper\" posters, and I've seen how having their bellies full makes them more creative and engaged. With your support, my students are not only better nourished, but also better prepared to learn, collaborate, and dream about their place in the world.","fullyFundedDate":1711549755689,"projectUrl":"project/afternoon-protein-packs-a-punch/8128736/","projectTitle":"Afternoon Protein Packs a Punch","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6864357_orig.jpg?crop=500,500,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569901337747","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6864357"},{"teacherId":6864357,"projectId":8060643,"letterContent":"We've been using our new garden resources to bring science to life in our fourth-grade Deaf Education classroom! The raised beds and tools have completely transformed our outdoor learning space into a real-world science lab. One of our favorite classroom projects has been tracking plant life cycles by growing bell peppers and squash—something many of my students have never done before. Each student picked a seedling to care for and used a combination of sign language, illustrations, and written observations to document the stages of growth. We tied this directly into our state standards on plant parts, life cycles, and environmental interactions, and the hands-on experience helped my students make stronger connections with the academic content.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the gardening materials, their faces lit up with pure joy. Many of them signed \"Wow!\" or \"This is for us?\" and immediately started exploring what each tool did. For some, this was their first time ever holding a trowel or planting something in soil. It was an emotional and beautiful moment to witness their excitement turn into curiosity and then into responsibility. Next, we're planning to introduce composting as part of our unit on ecosystems, letting students observe decomposition and nutrient cycles firsthand. We'll also be creating a class recipe book based on what we harvest, integrating math through measurement and fractions, and ELA through procedural writing. Thank you for giving my students a chance to learn with their hands and hearts.","fullyFundedDate":1702071111437,"projectUrl":"project/growing-our-learning-by-growing-indoors/8060643/","projectTitle":"Growing Our Learning by Growing Indoors","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6864357_orig.jpg?crop=500,500,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569901337747","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6864357"},{"teacherId":6864357,"projectId":7735200,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our Deaf Education classroom now has access to a high-quality printer, transforming the way our students engage with learning materials. While technology plays a crucial role in education, printed resources remain an essential tool, especially for Deaf students who rely on visual learning.\r\n\r\nThis printer allows us to create accessible materials tailored to our students' needs. We can now print ASL reference guides, visual schedules, and customized worksheets with embedded QR codes that link to instructional ASL videos. Having physical copies of assignments ensures that students can review materials at their own pace without relying solely on digital screens.","fullyFundedDate":1693964978692,"projectUrl":"project/prayer-for-a-printer/7735200/","projectTitle":"Prayer for a Printer","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6864357_orig.jpg?crop=500,500,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569901337747","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6864357"},{"teacherId":6864357,"projectId":7564435,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our Deaf students now have access to new tablets, revolutionizing the way they learn and engage in the classroom. Many of our students rely heavily on visual communication, and these devices provide an essential bridge between them and their education.\r\n\r\nWith the tablets, students can access interactive learning apps designed specifically for ASL users, improving their literacy and comprehension skills. Video recording features allow them to practice signing, receive feedback, and communicate more effectively with teachers and peers. The ability to use captioned videos, digital textbooks, and real-time translation tools ensures that lessons are more accessible than ever before.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect for our students has been the ability to personalize their learning experience. Many of them enjoy using apps that allow them to create digital stories using ASL, bringing their ideas to life in ways that were not possible with traditional textbooks. Some have also discovered new ways to collaborate with their classmates, using video chat functions and shared digital workspaces to complete group projects.\r\n\r\nOne student, in particular, has shown remarkable progress. Before receiving the tablet, he struggled with written assignments due to language barriers. Now, he confidently records his responses in ASL and uses transcription tools to translate them into written English, improving his writing skills and boosting his confidence. Another student, who was previously hesitant to participate in class discussions, now actively contributes through video responses and interactive assignments.","fullyFundedDate":1693964978819,"projectUrl":"project/listening-and-speaking-to-learn/7564435/","projectTitle":"Listening and Speaking to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6864357_orig.jpg?crop=500,500,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569901337747","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6864357"},{"teacherId":9749461,"projectId":8781225,"letterContent":"\"Celebrating Success\" through positive behavior reinforcement significantly impacted my students individually by boosting their motivation, self-esteem, and overall engagement by acknowledging and rewarding achievements, no matter how small, which encourages them to continue striving for goals and fosters a sense of accomplishment; essentially, it reinforced positive behaviors and promoted a growth mindset by validating their hard work and progress. The device allows students to interact with educational apps and digital resources that support individualized learning at their own pace. With the tablet, students can engage with interactive lessons, practice skills through educational games, and access a wealth of resources that would be difficult to provide with traditional materials. For example, students can watch instructional videos, complete quizzes that give immediate feedback, and participate in digital storytelling or creative activities that allow for self-expression.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most about the tablet is the sense of independence it gives them. They love being able to explore educational games, work on creative projects, and even practice math and reading skills with instant rewards. The visual and interactive nature of the content is much more engaging than paper worksheets, making learning feel like a fun adventure. One of the most thrilling aspects is the instant feedback they receive, which encourages them to keep trying and improves their problem-solving abilities.","fullyFundedDate":1692893394855,"projectUrl":"project/tablet-to-teach-technology/7708324/","projectTitle":"Tablet to Teach Technology","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6864357_orig.jpg?crop=500,500,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569901337747","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6864357"},{"teacherId":6864357,"projectId":7910831,"letterContent":"Oh my goodness, you wouldn't believe the excitement when those big bins arrived! When I showed them the compostable bags, little Lily said, \"It's like magic paper, Miss Sarah!\" We spent the afternoon decorating the bins with colorful pictures of worms and veggies, and now they look so cheerful in our garden.\r\n\r\nOur next step is turning all that cafeteria yucky-to-yummy! We're going to start a \"worm hotel\" in one of the compost bins, and the kids are so excited to see how the worms turn our apple cores and banana peels into super-rich soil for our carrots and tomatoes. We'll be sorting our lunch scraps every day, learning about what goes in each bin, and watching the whole process. We're going to be little scientists, observing how things change over time and learning how we can help the earth.\r\n\r\nI know the donors would just love to see how much the kids are learning. They're already talking about how their families can compost at home! It's so wonderful to see them understanding that even little things, like throwing away the right thing, can make a big difference for our planet.
