My English 12 students have read three essays from \"The Anthropocene Reviewed,\" and they are enjoying John Green's witty, informative, and approachable writing style. The essays we have read so far have fostered lively discussions, ranging in topics from the best practices for organizing an essay to what real velociraptors looked like (yes, really!). \r\n\r\nFor those who are not familiar with the \"The Anthropocene Reviewed,\" it is a collection of essays about various components of our current geological age--one that has been irrevocably affected by our species for better and for worse. Everything from the Bubonic Plague to Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is up for examination, and I'm hoping that reading this book helps my students realize that nothing is too big or small to be analyzed, and that every examination of a subject should be approached with an open mind and a willingness to dig into the minutiae, as that's often where the good stuff is.
