We know two introductory songs from memory, Funga Alafia (we welcome you) and The Peace Song. Everyone started off learning how to play the soprano recorder parts. Then as time progressed, the soprano recorders had to play in two separate, duet-like parts. After that I began introducing the alto and tenor recorder parts and finally the bass recorder parts. It has been a wonderful experience for all students to see how each song can be added onto more and more. We began learning the basics of the soprano recorder at the beginning of the school year with a song called The Peace Song. Then we added on to the learning how to play two parts simultaneously to create a \"duet\" sound. Since then we have slowly been incorporating how to play in 3 and 4 parts with the alto, tenor, and bass recorders. The students are always excited to \"add on\" to the song with new parts. One particular student, who was in my class last year is particularly excited to volunteer themselves to try different parts of the same songs they already know. We are all excited to be able to sound our best by using the new equipment you donated to us. My larger general music class has been assigned an instrument, and we are learning about hand placement and proper tone production. We are easing into making sounds with songs like \"Hot Cross Buns\" and \"Mary Had a Little Lamb\". They are slowly getting adjusted to this new way of learning music and they are loving it! \r\n\r\nMy smaller general music class is a little more advanced, and with that knowledge comes the responsibility of teaching students how to play \"Way Back Then\", a song from the show Squid Game. They are having so much fun learning this song! I predict they will be able to play all of it by the end of next week. I am hopeful that both groups will be a part of our winter concert repertoire and for our multi cultural events in December.
