Our district is underfunded, special education takes a back seat. Since being hired in 2023 I received minimal supplies and on my first duty day literally walked into a room that only had a rug, tables and chairs, book cases, a wall mounted screen for the desktop, and a few older Montessori activities. I spent a couple thousand dollars over the course of that year trying to outfit the room....and, on a colleagues recommendation joined Donors Choose. Best choice I made.\r\nWhen I received your donation over the summer, it enabled me to start this school year with new, highly engaging, toys and hands on activities my students could do independently and learn at the same time. They have made progress in literacy, numeracy, social studies, and life skills as a result. They have increased their time on task and independence. Further, as a result of the students improving and learning the parents are happy and asking what they can do at home. Finally, I am able to focus on my next goal: building a classroom library. \r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart!","fullyFundedDate":1725818411491,"projectUrl":"project/children-with-special-needs-play-to-lear/8401031/","projectTitle":"Children With Special Needs Play To Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9545233_orig.jpg?crop=475,475,x470,y187&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735037913906","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9545233"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121744","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":509,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":39,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":44,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - K","studentTeacherRatio":"9.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":61.1,"schoolId":121744,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about East Texas Montessori Preparatory Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"East Texas Montessori Preparatory Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/longview-independent-school-district/east-texas-montessori-prep-academy/121744"}
