With this book, my students will be able to work on their text analysis skills, further their reading skills, and learn about the dystopian genre along with many themes that are associated with it. Seen in one of the pictures that I uploaded, you will see that the students started the book by writing a preassessment-style writing, using a scenario based on the events of the book. Even before reading the book, the students are fascinated with the concept of a bunch of teenagers being stuck in a maze and being forced to find their way out. Hearing their theories of what will happen in the book reminded me why I wanted to teach English in the first place, seeing their faces when new details are brought to fruition, and of course hearing them call each other the Glade \"curse words\" has been hilarious.\r\n\r\nWhen it comes to reading in my classroom, I try to let them read to their individual groups when I can, but somedays when they are tired I will read to them and make sure they are annotating along with me. I always use the mentality of never giving them work that I would have hated when I was in school, so most of the time I am reading along with them and writing notes with them as if I have never read the book. I feel that this encourages the kids to work more and shows them that it is not as hard as it seems. While reading, I pause frequently to establish notes that need to be jotted down but I encourage them to write whatever pops into their minds while they are reading, which makes for great discussions about what they think will happen. I love hearing their creativity being expressed through their ideas/theories and because of this generous donation, they can now read a book that is more relatable to them than Shakespeare could ever imagine to be. My job is to make sure they learn everything needed to excel on the end of the year test, but I took the job so I could spark a love of books/reading into a new generation of kids.","fullyFundedDate":1759327334023,"projectUrl":"project/wicked-is-good/9733014/","projectTitle":"WICKED is Good","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Elswick","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10270549_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y231&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758303474701","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10270549"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58667","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":360,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":98,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":58667,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about East Ridge High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"East Ridge High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/pike-county-school-district/east-ridge-high-school/58667"}
