First of all, we are using the lap desks daily for math at the carpet with a group of students at a time while the rest of the class is doing independent work at their desks. I have noticed better handwriting and quality of work due to greater posture and a nice, flat surface to write on for the math workbook exercises. In addition, we are using the lap trays for our science or art stations. The students love seeing the lap trays set up in different parts of the room, already prepared with all of the materials they will be using such as paint sets, paper towels, crayons, pencils, and papers. The students no longer have to wait for the teacher to pass out the materials one by one at their desks. There is also less clutter with fewer containers needed to hold the materials thanks to the storage provided on both sides of the lap trays.\r\n\r\nLap trays are indispensable in play as well. For example, you will find students using the lap trays for their pretend house, for building things on it, for arts and crafts, and doing work with their fifth grade buddies every month. Friends can easily grab a tray when they need it and move it anywhere to spread out. It is a lot easier than moving desks around. It is wonderful how lightweight and portable they are for Kindergartners. I also like how they are stackable and take up little space in the room.\r\n\r\nAlong with the lap trays, I received some whiteboards and I have put them to use immediately in my small groups. The students are able to practice writing their letters, numbers, and sight words. It is so nice having whiteboards that can be used over and over instead of worksheets. Thank you for these educational gifts.","fullyFundedDate":1757527950988,"projectUrl":"project/enjoying-the-benefits-of-lap-trays/9533960/","projectTitle":"Enjoying the Benefits of Lap Trays","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Loke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9851579"},{"teacherId":9851579,"projectId":8980819,"letterContent":"Our three kindergarten classes are having so much joy making weekly art work with a variety of new construction papers colors we haven't had before as well as acrylic paint. Our stash of acrylic paint that is shared with all grade levels in the building is so low and old that I, for one, rarely used it. I stuck to my class set of water color paint. When I brought out the new jugs of acrylic paint, the students were so excited! They noticed how much brighter and darker the red was on their Chinese New Year snakes. They also expressed how beautiful all of the colors of the rainbows were when making their March calendar art for their families. We are definitely going to be using acrylic paint more often. Some upcoming ideas include painting with sponges and on glass jars. Teachers and students alike will be able to explore and create new art pieces given the new mediums we have received thanks to your donation. We are very appreciative. Thank you very much.","fullyFundedDate":1734544323016,"projectUrl":"project/boosting-creativity-with-art/8980819/","projectTitle":"Boosting Creativity with Art","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Loke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9851579"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56109","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":428,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":9,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"21.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.6,"schoolId":56109,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about East Ridge Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"East Ridge Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/northshore-school-district-417/east-ridge-elementary-school/56109"}
