My students love to create and that is especially helpful this time of year- with testing on the horizon, students are getting a bit restless! Creating helps relax minds and overall keeps the classroom calm and happy. \r\nAs part of an SEL lesson, we learned about creating comforting creatures with polymer clay. Students were thrilled when I returned with their newly baked creations. We are also beginning to plan our final art project- a ceiling tile that will be remain in my classroom for years to come. \r\nWe also got some disposable cups. Now, this may seem silly, but we have a game with cups that students are obsessed with! Each color cup represents a different answer, and students have to grab the correct answer at the right time to get a point. This makes for some very... crushed cups. It is hilarious to watch and our favorite review game!\r\nOverall this project has really enriched my classroom and I am so grateful for love and generosity given to my students. Students worked so hard on their projects and I wanted to be able to preserve them, either for examples to keep next year or for students to take home! The laminator has been such a blessing. In fact, they will ask specifically for a lesson to be repeated. Our favorite so far was making slime. Admittedly, this was the messiest, but it's okay to make messes sometimes. \r\n\r\nWe used a bit of experimentation to get consistencies right. One student was confident enough to lead the classroom in instruction, so I got to be a student for once! We had a blast making the slime. When it was time to add color, I was able to teach them a bit about color theory and mixing pigments. We don't have an art class at school anymore, but I will not let our students go by without creative instruction! Again, students enjoyed playing with different colors and seeing how well (or not well) they mixed. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your donation and care towards my classroom.
