The new Cozy Corner and art rack have given our students wonderful spaces to develop their social-emotional skills while also encouraging their creativity and imagination.\r\n\r\nOur Cozy Corner has quickly become a special place in our classroom. Students use it when they need a quiet moment, want to calm their bodies, or simply need some time to reset. We are learning that it is okay to have big feelings and that we can use different strategies to help ourselves feel ready to learn again. It has been wonderful to watch students begin recognizing when they need a break and independently choose the Cozy Corner.\r\n\r\nThe art rack has also been a huge success! Having art materials easily accessible allows students to make choices and explore their creativity throughout the day. Recently, students used the materials to create their own drawings and imaginative artwork. They were so proud to select their supplies, work independently, and share their creations with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate! They were eager to explore the art supplies and especially curious about the new Cozy Corner. I heard lots of excited comments and saw big smiles as they discovered all the ways they could use our new classroom resources. It was wonderful to see how quickly they understood that these spaces were created especially for them.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped us create a classroom where students can feel safe, express their emotions, make choices, and be creative. Our next steps are to continue building our social-emotional skills by practicing how to identify and express our feelings, use calming strategies, and support our friends. For a lot of my students, this is their first time attending school - having access to tools and materials that make them feel safe, comfortable, and loved is what I strive for the most. While a lot of my students can't yet talk or write - their smiles and joy while playing and learning with the materials shows how thankful and appreciative they are, too!\r\n\r\nI have primarily used these tools and materials in two important areas in my school: the sensory space and the music space. Most of my students use both of these spaces on a daily basis!\r\n\r\nIn the music room, the room divider has helped them be able to limit visual and auditory distractions when the music space gets too loud, and the spinner in the \"sensory\" area of the music room is a fan favorite! The liquid tiles help them know how to transition into and out of the music therapy space, too.
