Reading bilingual and multicultural books allows my students to make powerful connections between their home language and English. These connections strengthen vocabulary, improve comprehension, and build confidence as students begin to see that the language they speak at home is not a barrier, it is a strength that helps them grow as readers and thinkers.\r\n\r\nJust as important, these books allow my students to see their cultures, traditions, and experiences reflected in the stories we read. When students recognize their languages, names, and cultural traditions in a book, it validates who they are and sends a powerful message that their voices and identities matter. This sense of belonging helps create a classroom where every student feels valued, respected, and included.\r\n\r\nIn our ESL classroom, these books will be used in many engaging ways.
