They were fascinated by the chrysalis stage and absolutely thrilled when the butterflies emerged and we released them into the wild. It was not only educational, but also deeply inspiring.\r\n\r\nThis hands-on experience sparked curiosity, encouraged thoughtful questions, and brought the science curriculum to life in a way that textbooks simply can't. The students were so excited when I told them our project was funded. Fun fact, the teacher in the next room actually texted me to make sure we were okay because the students were so excited. \r\nThis class project and class pet has really helped to gain the attention of many of my students and make them work harder in order to be able to help with the dragon. It has also played an important role in part of my classroom management and making the students be more responsible for their work and their actions. One thing the students do, is help me to feed Fiona every day. I will spin the well at the beginning of our Advisory period and whatever number the wheel falls on, that student will help me feed the dragon and log in the book. Now, there is a catch, if the student got in trouble the day before of the morning of their turn, they will be skipped. This has helped students to regulate themselves as dragons are fragile and require care. \r\nThis project has helped me to teach my students a lot about how to care for a Bearded Dragon and also that all animals require different levels of care. The students did an assignment on comparing the care needed for caring for a bearded dragon to their animals they have at home. This really helped the students really understand the differences between the needs of animals. Interestingly enough, there have been a few of my students who have actually gotten beard dragons since we got our class pet. \r\nI again want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your help and support in getting the class pet. The students have really enjoyed having Fiona and learning about her care, feeding habits, and habitats.","fullyFundedDate":1739236191638,"projectUrl":"project/science-class-pet-bearded-dragon/9097009/","projectTitle":"Science Class Pet Bearded Dragon","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dorsey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9879004_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735804298811","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dorseyforscience"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38940","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":325,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":69.5,"schoolId":38940,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dunbar Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dunbar Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/west-virginia/kanawha-county-school-district/dunbar-middle-school/38940"}
