Your support has made an incredible impact on my students.\r\n\r\nThe calm corner has become a vital space in our classroom. It provides a dedicated area where students can go to de-escalate, regain focus, and practice self-regulation strategies. I am thrilled to report that most my students with autism independently use the calm corner to manage their emotions when needed. This space has given them the tools and opportunity to take a moment for themselves, allowing them to reset when feeling overwhelmed. Many students who previously struggled with emotional outbursts now seek out the calm corner on their own as a proactive way to prevent stress from escalating.\r\n\r\nThe calming space and social-emotional learning materials have not only helped my students manage their emotions but have also played a significant role in reducing the distractions caused by maladaptive behaviors. Prior to having these resources, students often struggled to remain engaged in lessons due to anxiety or frustration, which led to disruptive behaviors. With the ability to self-regulate and cope with these emotions, students have become more focused and less likely to engage in behaviors that disrupt the learning environment. The decrease in distractions has created a more conducive atmosphere for learning.\r\n\r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for your investment in the emotional and academic growth of my students. The difference it has made in their daily lives is profound, and I am excited to continue supporting their journey toward becoming more independent, self-aware, and successful learners.","fullyFundedDate":1731564023789,"projectUrl":"project/self-regulation-calm-corner/8720177/","projectTitle":"Self-regulation Calm Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montiel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9717104_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740452394028","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9717104"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40817","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":916,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":97,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":84.4,"schoolId":40817,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Driffill Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Driffill Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/oxnard-elementary-school-district/driffill-elementary-school/40817"}
