It gives me a wonderful feeling to know that others understand and appreciate the importance of music education and especially the fine art of playing a string instrument!\r\n\r\nThe tuner/metronomes which, you have funded for the orchestra will give the students exactly what they need to help them practice playing in tune and with the beat! This, in turn, will help both the student as an individual musician and the orchestra as a whole. Thanks to your generous gift, my young performers will learn musical concepts more quickly and with greater accuracy. \r\n\r\nThank you, Thank you, Thank you! I cannot say that enough! The first thing my students noticed when starting to read \"Just Mercy\" was that the books were brand new! When we read \"To Kill a Mockingbird\", many of the books were outdated and falling apart. I know my students deserve the best, but unfortunately our school doesn't always have the resources we need. Thanks to you, not only do they now have access to new books, but it also sparks their interest!\r\n\r\nWe began reading \"Just Mercy\" at the start of this month and recently finished Chapter 5. The engagement level has been incredible so far! Far beyond what I've seen with previous texts. Just last week, we had a class discussion about how the author uses music in the novel to develop the overarching theme. We listened and analyzed the songs that have been mentioned; we researched the historical and cultural context of the song (specifically \"Stand\"), and even identified modern day songs that have similar messages. Because of this, the students are more eager to learn about the author, Bryan Stevenson, and are shocked to realize that everything in the book is true. Their interest even led them deeper, as they just completed a mini-research project over the author's non profit organization (Equal Justice Initiative) to learn about its role in ending mass incarceration and challenging racial injustices. \r\n\r\nThe students are especially excited for the mock trial that will be held at the end of this unit. They loved the experience after reading \"To Kill a Mockingbird\", and cannot wait to step into the courtroom again! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making an impact in my students' education. Your donation has provided them with more than just materials -- you have provided them with the opportunity to grow and connect.","fullyFundedDate":1732173980683,"projectUrl":"project/bridging-classic-and-contemporary-litera/8935589/","projectTitle":"Bridging Classic and Contemporary Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hoppie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9832743_orig.jpg?crop=552,552,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731342667827","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9832743"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_8996","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1541,"numTeachers":119,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":52,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.4,"schoolId":8996,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr Ralph H Poteet High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dr Ralph H Poteet High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/mesquite-independent-school-district/dr-ralph-h-poteet-high-school/8996"}
