Items like the weighted lap pad, chewable pencil toppers, Play-Doh, and fidget puzzles help students stay calm, focused, and ready to learn, while hands-on resources such as puzzles, number manipulatives, and magnetic tiles support early math, problem-solving, and fine motor skills. One of my favorite moments was watching a student who typically struggles to remain seated independently complete a puzzle while using the weighted lap pad—something that would not have been possible before.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and genuine. Several students gravitated toward the pretend play sets, such as the veterinarian kit, food play items, and Mr. Potato Head, using them to practice language, turn-taking, and social interaction. Others were drawn to the floor puzzles and magnetic tiles, working together to build communities, rockets, and animals. These moments of shared play have been especially meaningful, as many of my students are still developing communication and peer interaction skills.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students include using these resources to support current lessons focused on counting, place value, opposites, rhyming, and community helpers, while also expanding social-emotional learning through cooperative play. The water sensory mat, talking flash cards, and building blocks quickly became classroom favorites, giving students hands-on ways to strengthen problem-solving, fine motor skills, and early literacy. One memorable moment was when a student who usually hesitates to participate proudly completed the alphabet puzzle on their own and smiled from ear to ear. The sense of accomplishment these materials bring is truly invaluable.\r\n\r\nThe sensory items—such as the squish and squeeze beads, weighted elephant, and fidget toys —have been just as important for my classroom. These tools provide my students with safe and appropriate outlets to regulate their emotions, refocus, and return to learning with confidence. The noise-reduction earmuffs have also been a huge help during times when the classroom gets noisy and during fire drills, allowing students who are sensitive to sound to stay comfortable and engaged.\r\n\r\nNext, we plan to continue using these materials as part of both structured lessons and independent choice time. The flash cards will support vocabulary growth during literacy centers, while the timers will help students practice self-management and transition smoothly between activities. The puzzles, blocks, and sensory tools will continue to build independence, confidence, and joy in learning.
