Our students loved all the prizes to choose from and were really encouraged to read as much as they could during the month of March for our March Madness challenge.\r\n\r\nAll students, from 4K to 5th grade were encouraged to read a certain amount of minutes each night during the month of March. All students were able to be read to, read by themselves, or read to someone. After reading for 15 or 30 minutes, depending on the age, they had an adult sign off on the calendar.\r\n\r\nAt the end of March, students turned in the calendars and then I went around with the prize cart for them to choose their prizes. Students were able to use \"purple tickets\" (our reward system at school) to purchase anything off of our school store cart. Our purple tickets are used to encourage positive behaviors and continue their focus throughout the year. With your support, we were also able to have monthly gift certificates and awards for 1 kid per class and 1 extra for K-2 and 1 for 3-5. The awards are given by classroom teachers to a student that went above and beyond in one our core values at school. The extra 2 certificates a month are given by our social worker who is tracking school attendance. \r\n\r\nThe first time the students saw all of the new items on the cart they were excitedly asking questions and picking up and examining every new thing.
