One of the titles, Stella Díaz Has Something to Say, fits beautifully into our current unit, where students explore how books can serve as both mirrors that reflect their own lives and windows that open views into different experiences and cultures. Through these texts, students are learning to better understand characters, build vocabulary in both Spanish and English, and reflect on how imagination and creativity help children navigate everyday challenges.\r\n \r\nReading in our dual language classrooms is an active and social experience. Students read independently and together, engage in thoughtful conversations, and make meaningful connections between the stories and their own lives. Teachers guide students to pause, discuss, and reflect, helping them see reading as a way to better understand themselves and the world around them—not just as an academic skill, but as a source of curiosity and joy.\r\n\r\nMany students have already formed strong connections to these new books. Bilingual students and those still building confidence in expressing themselves especially relate to characters like Stella, who is learning to find her voice. We've seen increased enthusiasm for reading, rich discussions among peers, and students eagerly choosing these books again and again. Your support is helping our students feel seen, inspired, and excited to read—thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1758861311576,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-ourselves-and-others-through-stel/9613107/","projectTitle":"Seeing Ourselves and Others Through Stella Díaz","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Villasenor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp788495_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746219701293","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/judy-garcia"},{"teacherId":2116225,"projectId":9714270,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been transformed in ways that will continue to shape student learning for years to come. With the arrival of Patterns of Power, my students now have access to a resource that makes grammar meaningful, joyful, and connected to their real writing. Instead of viewing conventions as rules to \"get right,\" my students now explore how language works, discover patterns in mentor texts, and apply those ideas with confidence in their own writing.\r\n\r\nThe impact has already been felt. Students who once hesitated to share their writing are now volunteering to show how they used a new pattern in their stories. Conversations about language have become lively, curious, and collaborative. I've watched students take risks, revise with intention, and celebrate their growth as writers—not because they had to, but because they felt empowered to.\r\n\r\nYour support has opened the door for my students to see themselves as capable, expressive writers whose voices matter. Because of you, our teachers are now able to integrate Mystery Science lessons into our Amplify Science units—creating a powerful combination of hands-on exploration, digital learning, and real-world connections.\r\n\r\nWith your help, our students are experiencing science in a whole new way. Mystery Science lessons spark curiosity and make abstract ideas come alive through engaging videos, guided investigations, and simple experiments. Teachers use these lessons to build background knowledge, deepen understanding, and prepare students for the more complex investigations in Amplify Science. For example, second graders investigated how plants grow toward light before launching into their Plants and Pollinators Amplify unit. Third graders explored Lizard Island, where they learned about natural selection, trait variation, and survival—connecting directly to their Amplify unit on life science and adaptation.\r\n\r\nTeachers have shared that students are more engaged, eager to participate, and asking deeper questions about the world around them. The combination of Mystery Science and Amplify Science has helped transform science from a subject students \"learn about\" into one they experience.\r\n\r\nMy appreciation is shared with the more than 22 teachers and over 400 students who now have access to this incredible platform. This year, as you will see from the photos, we have had a wonderful first few weeks of school with fun and interesting art projects. \r\n\r\nThe most thrilling part to my students are the neon paint palettes. We started the year with a highlighter art project and when the paint showed up it was a natural progression to using the neon paint.
