They touched everything, asked questions, and a few even said, \"We really get to use this?\" It was one of those moments where you could feel the room shift—excitement, possibility, and a sense of being seen.\r\n\r\nWe've already used the supplies for our reading and writing strategies work. During an annotation lesson, a student grabbed sticky notes and whispered, \"This actually makes it easier to understand.\" That moment alone showed me how much access matters. These tools didn't just support learning—they gave students confidence and ownership.\r\n\r\nNext, we're moving into a multi-step writing project where students will track themes, build claims, and revise drafts. Because of these materials, they're starting from a place of readiness instead of limitation. It feels like we're building something new together—and that's a gift.","fullyFundedDate":1727462621889,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-connections/8576463/","projectTitle":"Classroom Connections","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9299876"},{"teacherId":9297997,"projectId":9184792,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your help in my classroom! Budgets are tighter each year and it's tougher for me to use my own money for supplies.\r\n\r\nThe classroom has really come alive with the plastic shapes. My students have a better understanding of the attributes of shapes now that they can tangibly touch and move them. \r\n\r\nOnce we were able to establish shape definition, then we could move on to transformations. Students made incredible quilt designs based on the shape they knew. Then they made the quilt pieces out of the foam poster board and used all their new supplies for the final project. The addition of 10 graphing calculators to my classroom has had a profound impact on both student engagement and academic success. These devices have brought abstract mathematical concepts to life, allowing students to visualize complex functions, explore data sets, and experiment with mathematical models in ways that would have been difficult or impossible with traditional paper-and-pencil methods.\r\n\r\nFor students, the graphing calculators have provided a bridge between theoretical learning and practical application. In algebra 2, they can instantly graph equations, explore transformations, and understand the effects of variables in real-time. This hands-on approach has significantly increased student comprehension and retention. Students who may have struggled with abstract concepts are now able to see immediate feedback, which builds their confidence and curiosity.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the calculators have enabled more collaborative learning. In group projects, students can work together to solve problems, share insights, and verify their solutions using the graphing functions. This teamwork fosters communication skills and enhances problem-solving abilities. The calculators have also allowed me to focus on higher-level thinking and problem-solving, since routine computations no longer take up as much class time.\r\n\r\nThe availability of these tools has leveled the playing field for students with varying levels of ability. For struggling learners, graphing calculators provide a visual aid that clarifies concepts, while for advanced learners, they offer opportunities to explore more complex problems and deepen their understanding. In addition, the calculators have empowered students to explore mathematics beyond the textbook, developing a deeper appreciation for the subject.","fullyFundedDate":1728062141180,"projectUrl":"project/graphing-calculators-to-help-underserved/8764687/","projectTitle":"Graphing Calculators To Help Underserved Students in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Borgsmiller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9297564"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41629","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1659,"numTeachers":94,"percentFrplEligible":21,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":41629,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Douglas County High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Douglas County High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/douglas-county-school-district-re-1/douglas-co-high-school/41629"}
