Each text introduces important early literacy skills—things like recognizing letters and sounds, understanding story structure, building vocabulary, and making connections between pictures and words. Many of the books also support social-emotional lessons, such as sharing, kindness, and understanding feelings, which help students grow not only as readers but as little humans.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading happens in lots of joyful ways. We read together during whole-group lessons, explore books in small groups, and offer plenty of time for independent \"book browsing.\" Students love making predictions, acting out stories, and talking about the characters. Our reading corner has quickly become one of the busiest and happiest spots in the room!\r\n\r\nThere are several students who have especially connected with the new books. One student loves pointing out letters they recognize and proudly \"reading\" the pictures to friends. Another has become captivated by a series of books about food and cooking—fitting perfectly with our new kitchen center! Others simply enjoy curling up with a friend and sharing a story together.\r\n\r\nThese books have brought excitement, confidence, and curiosity to our classroom. Thank you for helping us build a space where early readers can discover the joy of stories and the power of imagination.","fullyFundedDate":1757104415923,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-of-reading-in-kindergart/9654040/","projectTitle":"Building a Love of Reading in Kindergarten!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clare-Sherman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7685124_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y54&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1607613167075","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7685124"},{"teacherId":7685124,"projectId":9653878,"letterContent":"Our class has absolutely loved using our new play kitchen and kitchen center toys! These materials have quickly become the heart of our dramatic play area. One of my favorite moments was watching a small group of students work together to \"open\" their own restaurant. They took orders, cooked meals, and even created a little drive-thru window—all while practicing sharing, communicating, and using their imaginations.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new kitchen and toys, the reaction was priceless. Their eyes widened, jaws dropped, and they immediately began pointing out all the new foods, utensils, and appliances. Several students cheered, and one even said, \"This is the best day ever!\" They jumped right into pretend play, exploring every cabinet and basket and creating their own little worlds.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're using the materials to support language development, cooperative play, and real-world connections. Our next steps are to introduce themed dramatic-play challenges—like making a healthy menu, running a bakery, or hosting a pretend family dinner—to help students stretch their creativity and practice important social skills.\r\n\r\nYour generous support didn't just provide toys—it created a space where imagination, learning, and joy come together every single day. Interactive programs provide students with opportunities to practice literacy and math skills at their own pace, while also offering immediate feedback. This not only keeps students engaged but also allows me to monitor their progress closely and adjust instruction to meet individual needs. By integrating technology, we are able to create a more personalized learning environment that supports growth for all students.\r\n\r\nThe Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards have also had a direct and positive impact in our classroom. They allowed me to access high-quality instructional resources that align with state standards and meet the diverse needs of my students. With these materials, I have been able to supplement lessons with engaging activities, digital centers, and hands-on resources that reinforce key skills. These resources have strengthened instruction, saved preparation time, and provided students with multiple pathways to success.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made it possible to expand the learning opportunities available to my students, and I am deeply grateful for the support.","fullyFundedDate":1617306764615,"projectUrl":"project/staying-engaged-and-learning/5331241/","projectTitle":"Staying Engaged and Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clare-Sherman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7685124_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y54&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1607613167075","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7685124"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_13869","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":163,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"8.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":71.9,"schoolId":13869,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dime Box School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dime Box School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/dime-box-independent-school-district/dime-box-school/13869"}
