Because of you, our classroom—and even our PE space—has been transformed in ways that go far beyond glue sticks, pencils, composition notebooks, and sports equipment. At our disciplinary campus in Dickinson ISD, many of our students come to school carrying academic gaps, behavioral challenges, and a lack of confidence in themselves as learners. Your support helped remove one of the most basic but powerful barriers they face: not having the tools they need to feel prepared and capable. These materials are now being used daily for note-taking, structured writing, interactive assignments, and goal-setting reflections, while the PE equipment has created opportunities for positive movement, teamwork, and healthy competition. One moment that stands out was during a writing activity when a student proudly opened a brand-new composition notebook and said, \"This feels like a real school notebook.\" That simple statement captured the impact of your gift—it gave students a sense of belonging and legitimacy as learners.\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were immediate and genuine. There was excitement, curiosity, and even surprise that someone they had never met cared enough to invest in them. Several students asked, \"Who bought this for us?\" and \"Why would they do that?\" This opened the door for powerful conversations about community, kindness, and people believing in their potential even when they struggle. Students eagerly organized their supplies, labeled notebooks, and took ownership of materials in a way I had not seen before. In PE, the new sports equipment changed the tone of class almost instantly. Students who often disengage or struggle behaviorally became more willing to participate, encourage one another, and channel their energy in positive ways. For many of our students, school can feel like a place where they are constantly reminded of mistakes. Seeing these new resources helped shift that mindset toward one of opportunity and fresh starts.\r\nBecause of your generosity, the next steps for our students involve building consistency, responsibility, and pride in their work. We are currently using the notebooks and supplies for structured lessons that focus on goal setting, reflection, and skill development—helping students track progress, celebrate growth, and learn accountability. In PE, we are expanding team-based activities that reinforce communication, leadership, and perseverance—skills that translate directly into the classroom and real life. Most importantly, your donation has helped change how students see themselves. They are more engaged, more willing to try, and more open to believing that school can be a place of success rather than failure. Thank you for giving our students more than supplies—you gave them encouragement, dignity, and a reason to feel excited about learning again. Your impact will be felt long after the pencils are sharpened and the notebooks are filled.","fullyFundedDate":1765322375574,"projectUrl":"project/reading-and-classroom-materials-pe-equi/9572509/","projectTitle":"Reading and Classroom Materials: PE Equipment","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Schneider","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10030719_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y293&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746804916242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10030719"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_8219","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":70,"numTeachers":5,"percentFrplEligible":72,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"8 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":8219,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dickinson Alternative Learning Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dickinson Alternative Learning Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/dickinson-independent-school-district/dickinson-alternative-learning-ctr/8219"}
