This resource has opened the door for my students to better understand the world around them and to practice critical thinking every day.\r\n\r\nStudents are building stronger reading comprehension skills by engaging with articles that are written at their level yet connected to real-world issues. They are learning to identify main ideas, discuss multiple perspectives, and make connections between classroom lessons and current events. The digital format keeps them engaged with interactive features, visuals, and topics that feel relevant to their lives.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, the program has sparked curiosity and meaningful conversations. Students are asking thoughtful questions, expressing their opinions respectfully, and becoming more confident about sharing their ideas. Many of them now see themselves as informed citizens who can understand and discuss what's happening in the world.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly helped my students grow not only as readers but also as thinkers and future leaders. These books also serve as powerful entry points for discussions about empathy, identity, and social justice. For example, the Fudge character, brings such joy and laughter to students while they are practicing their skills. The joy of reading of Fudge's antics instill a love of reading.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active and engaging process. Students are not just reading silently but discussing in small groups, annotating texts, journaling their thoughts, and even performing scenes or creating visual responses to what they've read. The classroom often buzzes with excitement during reading time, with students eager to share what surprised them or made them think differently. We use a mix of whole-class as well as , small group texts, depending on reading levels.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts of using the new books has been seeing how different students connect with them. A student who previously struggled to engage with reading has become completely absorbed in the story we recently added—he now is excited to come to reading group. Another student, who rarely spoke in class, opened up during a discussion of a book that reflected her own background and experiences. There were many ooo's and ahhh's as we opened each package. The kids were especially excited about the Dog Man books and the Raina Telgemeier collection. It warms my heart to see children so excited to get their hands on new books.\r\n These books will be added our collection of books that will be handed out throughout the summer. I make a list of the many families that will participate this summer and start making a driving route. Families have the option to either pick up books from our school, pick up books from me from the Brown County Bookmobile, or have books dropped off on their front porch. These book drop off dates happen three times over the summer and it usually takes me between 4 and 8 hours to drop off all of the books.\r\n The best part of this program is that it is free for families. I drop off free books and activities that help engage students all summer long. When reviewing data from year to year, we have found that this program has significantly contributed to students having minimal to no summer reading loss.
