When the box arrived, my students were overjoyed, and I was so excited to begin this new journey into social-emotional learning with them.\r\n\r\nThese books are already making an impact. They have a truly magical way of taking very big, abstract feelings and making them concrete and understandable for young children. By presenting emotions like anxiety, anger, and confidence as tangible \"spots,\" my students can see what they are feeling. This simple visual—a spot that can grow or shrink—or even have multiple emotions at the same time is powerful. Suddenly, these overwhelming feelings seem less scary and more manageable.\r\n\r\nOur new classroom routine has become a fast favorite. We start by gathering on the carpet for an interactive read-aloud, and my students are captivated by the vibrant, colorful illustrations and relatable stories.\r\n\r\nBut the learning doesn't stop when the book closes. After we read, we engage in wonderful discussions, giving students the vocabulary to identify and name their own feelings. They then get to process what we've learned through creative drawing and coloring activities.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these books provide a \"toolkit\" of practical strategies that we can practice together as a class. My students are learning how to handle moments of frustration, what to do when they feel worried, and how to navigate disappointment. You haven't just given us books; you've given us a shared language and a set of tools to build a more empathetic, resilient, and emotionally healthy classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in the well-being of my students. Your kindness has provided a resource that will help them grow, not just as students, but as compassionate and self-aware individuals.","fullyFundedDate":1750256161964,"projectUrl":"project/little-spot-to-support-our-emotional-nee/9244494/","projectTitle":"Little Spot to Support Our Emotional Needs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mares","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-mares"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3895","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":672,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":32,"percentAsian":70,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"21.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.1,"schoolId":3895,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Delaine Eastin Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Delaine Eastin Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/new-haven-unified-school-district/delaine-eastin-elementary-school/3895"}
