With the \"A Little Spot\" books, reading time has become one of the most valuable parts of our day. These books open the door for deep conversations about big feelings like anger, anxiety, and happiness—emotions that are often difficult for young children, especially those with special needs, to identify and talk about.\r\n\r\nEach story introduces important skills like:\r\n\r\nRecognizing and naming emotions\r\n\r\nUsing calming strategies like breathing or taking a break\r\n\r\nUnderstanding personal space and empathy\r\n\r\nMaking kind and respectful choices\r\n\r\nWe use these books during morning meetings, small groups, and even individual sessions. They are a perfect companion to our social-emotional goals and IEP objectives. One student in particular, who used to struggle to name his feelings, now regularly refers to his \"Anger Spot\" or \"Calm Spot\" to tell us how he's feeling. Another student, who often had trouble during transitions, now asks to read the \"Frustration Spot\" book to help settle her body.\r\n\r\nThese books have empowered my students to better understand themselves and the world around them. Your support is helping us build not only literacy skills, but life skills that will stay with them for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of stories—and in the potential of every child.","fullyFundedDate":1655578420764,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-learning-oh-my/6385783/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Learning, Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mallory Berry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8423776_orig.jpg?crop=676,677,x0,y31&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1650570728701","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8423776"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88458","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":534,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.9,"schoolId":88458,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Deer Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Deer Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oregon/tigard-tualatin-sch-dist-23j/deer-creek-elementary-school/88458"}
