The students participate in this activity before the class begins to relax them. I usually like to do this activity on Monday and Friday. This activity relaxes them. They are happier and take in more learning.\r\n\r\nMy students, especially the young men, love drums. They find that drums make the greatest sound. This is not a music class so when they saw the drums and maracas they were so excited. I enjoy finding creative ways to teach, learn, and laugh.\r\n\r\nI use yoga, meditation and drumming circles to teach them new vocabulary related to the lesson. It primarily is for relaxation and activate happy hormones. They have fun. They embody what they learn. \r\n\r\nHowever, great learning will continue to take place. Thanks to your help, we have been able to create some exciting and engaging projects since our items were delivered. Kindergarteners created assemblages using colorful plastic straws inspired by the work of Marta Minujin. They used the small nail polish bottles included in my project to paint glue onto their foam squares. This gluing method was super helpful in strengthening the fine motor skills of our youngest students, and it was much cleaner than our former gluing methods!! Third graders used the 12x12 papers to create Op Art inspired by the artist Bridget Riley. The square shapes of the paper best supported the composition of these projects and allowed my older students to truly challenge themselves.\r\nMyself and my students have had a wonderful time exploring these new materials in class, and are extremely eager to continue working with them in the future.
