I am not supposed to have favorites but I absolutely love working with our self-contained students. They love coming in the library and I feel like because they are such a small group of students, I can really sit down and get to know them. Each year I try to pick a project that we can do together that will take us a few weeks. Last year we studied the life cycle of a pumpkin. This year, thanks to your help, we are able to grow and release butterflies. We journaled their life cycle and watched them grow from caterpillars, to a chrysalis, to adult butterflies. Once they were big enough to release, we released them outside. I wish that you could have seen and heard the kids when they saw them come out of their enclosure and flew away. They were so excited!\r\n\r\nBefore we got out for break, we read How to Catch a Snowman and then made our very own snowmen from the kit we got from this project. The kids had so much fun and they came up with all kids of different styles of snowmen. They really got creative!\r\n\r\nThis project also provided us with several new books that the kids have been checking out and a puzzle that they slowly worked on in their spare time.\r\n\r\nThank you for your kindness and for helping to make all of these special moments a reality for my students!","fullyFundedDate":1758853154638,"projectUrl":"project/read-create-innovate-inspiring-young/9718269/","projectTitle":"Read, Create, Innovate: Inspiring Young Minds in the School Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gamble","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2221865_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1547165844553","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ronda-gamble"},{"teacherId":2221865,"projectId":9823255,"letterContent":"I had the sweetest student come up to me one day and he requested that we get more volumes in a few different series of manga books that we have. Thanks to your help, I was able to submit this project and have it funded in just a couple days. This meant that I was able to get these books on the shelf just a couple weeks after he asked me for them. None of that would have been possible without your help.\r\n\r\nNot only has he enjoyed these books, so has his peers. They were thrilled to see several more manga books added to our collection. I am excited because our library circulation is up this year. Thanks to your help, we were able to add several new books to our library collection. One of the most popular books is Blood in the Water. It is really hard to find great high interest mystery books that are appropriate for middle schoolers but still keeps their attention. Tiffany Jackson's book is her first middle school book and she did a fantastic job of keeping it edgy but completely middle school appropriate. The main character meets a friend and they try and solve the murder of a friend that was first thought to be the victim of a shark attack. This book has been checked out so many times!\r\n\r\nThe incentives have been a big hit. They love the 3D animal erasers and stickers. Even though they are middle schoolers, they still love to earn prizes. I have been able to use them as rewards for positive behavior and for prizes with classes that I had in at the end of the semester. We had fun playing holiday Pictionary and BINGO. These rewards made the perfect prize.\r\n\r\nThe water games have been well loved. Do you remember playing those games when you were younger? The ones where you push the button and tried to get the ring to hang on the hook. Kids today grow up playing video games and I want to being back some of the non-tech forms of play. They are loving them! Thanks to your help, we were able to add several new books to our library's collection. One of the books is A Rover's Story. I absolutely adore this book. It is written from the point of view of a Mars Rover. The author gave the robot such a great personality that you forget that it is a robot and not an actual person. We were also able to get several new manga books. My kids are loving One Punch Man. They barely make it to the shelf before they are gone again!\r\n\r\nThe cords helped us update our iPad charging carts in the hallways. Our system updated our iPads this year and the new iPads use USB-C cords instead of the lightning cables. This meant that our carts were useless without swapping out the cords. Now we have the carts all rewired and the kids are using them every day. Some leave their iPads on them overnight so they don't forget and leave them at home and some put them on the cart during the day to give their iPad a boost to make it the rest of the day.","fullyFundedDate":1746474819195,"projectUrl":"project/books-in-every-hand-dreams-in-every-hea/9238239/","projectTitle":"Books in Every Hand, Dreams in Every Heart","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gamble","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2221865_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1547165844553","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ronda-gamble"},{"teacherId":2221865,"projectId":9219567,"letterContent":"We truly appreciate you. We got brand new iPads this year for the students and we all know that middle schoolers are going through lots of changes and they do tend to sometimes forget things. These cords allowed us to change out the old cords in our hallway charging carts with the new style cords that work with our new iPads. This means that students have the option to charge their device here if they don't want to take it home or during the day if they need to give it a little more power to get through the day. This keeps them on task and on time with their school work because their device is ready for them to use.\r\n\r\nThe books have been well loved. Thanks to your help, we were able to get several new books. One of the things that I wanted to accomplish with this project is to get updated copies of a few books that have become staples such as Because of Winn Dixie and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We were also able to get a few more manga and graphic novels. My kids can't get enough of these books. Sometimes they come in more than once a day to get another book. Another thing that we were able to add were books that deal with diversity and the many forms it comes in. The Color of Sound is a great book that shows neurodiversity. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for the kindness that you have shown to my students and our school community by helping us make our school a better place for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1744239706908,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-better-library-one-book-at-a/9219567/","projectTitle":"Building a Better Library, One Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gamble","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2221865_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1547165844553","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ronda-gamble"},{"teacherId":2221865,"projectId":9882895,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for making this project happen for my students. This book has done so much more than teach reading skills. Through the story, students have learned to see beyond stereotypes and begin to accept each other's different backgrounds. They are thinking about how their actions and words affect others and are practicing empathy in ways that go beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a time for conversation and reflection. Students discuss the choices characters make and the challenges they face. They are learning to think critically while also connecting the story to their own lives. Many have started sharing their thoughts and feelings more openly and listening to others with more understanding and care.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were quiet or hesitant readers are now fully engaged. They are discovering the power of stories to help them understand difficult topics, including loss and death, and to realize that these are part of life. I had so much fun getting my inner pirate going and putting together this fun pirate scavenger hunt for our special needs class. We learned about pirates and how some of the famous pirates were girls and how most of them didn't really burry treasure, and the treasure most pirates were looking for was supplies and food. We then got into character with our hats and followed the map and clues in order to find the treasure. I enlisted other members of our faculty to be stations and help them with the clues. We had to solve riddles, learn how to follow a compass, and then learn how to use a black light in order to find hidden numbers to get into the treasure chest. They found stickers, gold coins, and a pirate booty snack in the treasure chest. They were allowed to keep their treasure, along with their pirate hat and patch. I put a turn table on the bottom of it so my students can spin it to the area they need.\r\n\r\nWe also got several new manga and other books. One of my favorites and a favorite of my kids is Black Girl You Are Atlas. The cover is striking and reflects so many of our girls in my school.
