With your help, we were able to get a new easel, bins for organization, and a play kitchen. These items greatly enriched my students' learning experience this year!\r\n\r\nThe easel was used for a variety of activities and subjects. During calendar, we used the easel along with a pocket chart to collect data. During writing, we used the easel along with chart paper to model writing and complete collaborative writing. It was an ideal size for my students to be able to reach and record information.\r\n\r\nThe organization bins were used for phonics instruction. Each table had a corresponding color bin. In the bin we stored mini whiteboards, erasers, and dry erase markers. During the dictation part of instruction, our table captains would go to the bins, bring them to their tables, and pass the materials out to their classmates. In this way, my students developed responsibility and it helped keep us quick and organized.\r\n\r\nMy students were ecstatic to see we had a new play kitchen! We didn't have one before because my old one was too worn. One student in particular always asked about one because her older sister had one in kindergarten. Well, once the package arrived, I assembled it after school and surprised them the next day. They were delighted to play with their classmates and used it everyday at play time.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my classroom. I will use these items for many years to come, and each class will benefit from your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1735336029112,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-and-play/8868102/","projectTitle":"Literacy and Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lo'Re","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8647177"},{"teacherId":8449677,"projectId":9133527,"letterContent":"Students are so grateful for the supplies we have received. The books you donated on the 50 states and Native American history made such a difference in my classroom. My students loved diving into their research, and these books gave them a real sense of excitement about learning.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project was seeing how much my students enjoyed the creative process. They had so much fun with hands-on learning, from researching their states to putting together their posters and creating salt dough maps. At our Family Literacy Night, their hard work came to life through these displays, along with performances of patriotic songs and a square dance. Seeing their excitement and pride as they shared their projects with families was truly special.\r\n\r\nWe didn't get time to create monument statues, but I'm excited to bring in air-dry clay for future projects. It has already made such a huge difference in our classroom, especially for our English Language Development (ELD) students!\r\n\r\nBeing able to print in color has completely changed the way we teach important concepts like comparing and contrasting, descriptions, and so much more. Having visual supports is a game-changer for students who are still developing their English skills, and your gift is making lessons so much more engaging and accessible. It's helping to break down language barriers and giving our students the tools they need to succeed.\r\n\r\nBeyond just academics, this has brought excitement into the classroom! Our students are more engaged, and it's amazing to see them interacting with materials in a whole new way. It's been so nice to have that little break to chat, relax, and build a stronger sense of community.\r\n\r\nOn top of that, the snacks have been a lifesaver while we wait for our very late lunch. Your generosity has had an incredible impact on our students, fostering a love for reading and deepening their appreciation for literature in ways we never imagined.\r\n\r\nThe excitement surrounding this year's competition has been truly inspiring. Students have been diving into the books with enthusiasm, engaging in discussions, and sharing their thoughts on the diverse stories they've encountered. The variety of genres included in the selection has given our students an opportunity to explore books they might not have picked up otherwise. They are not just reading to compete; they are reading for enjoyment, discovery, and growth.\r\n\r\nOne particularly touching example is Abigail, a student who was initially hesitant about reading books outside of her comfort zone. She confided in us that she typically sticks to one genre, but OBOB has encouraged her to take a chance on books she wouldn't have considered before. To her surprise, she has found new favorites among them and has even recommended books to her peers. Seeing students like Abigail embrace reading in new and unexpected ways is exactly what makes this program so impactful.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the inclusion of graphic novels has been a game-changer for many of our emergent readers. These visually engaging books have provided a gateway for students who may have been reluctant readers or struggled with comprehension. We have seen students who previously avoided books now eagerly turning pages, discussing plotlines, and even seeking out additional books outside of the competition.\r\n\r\nBeyond the individual impact on students, the Battle of the Books has created a sense of community among our young readers. They are not just reading in isolation but are coming together to discuss their favorite moments, debate their interpretations, and cheer each other on. Watching them collaborate, encourage one another, and celebrate the joy of reading has been an uplifting experience for our entire school community.\r\n\r\nWe cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support. Your contribution has helped foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for literature in our students. The impact of these books goes far beyond the competition itself—these stories are shaping young minds, opening doors to new ideas, and creating lifelong readers.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and commitment to promoting literacy. We appreciate your support more than words can express, and we look forward to continuing to inspire young readers through the Oregon Battle of the Books program.","fullyFundedDate":1726690800885,"projectUrl":"project/obob-book-copies-for-all-students/8795348/","projectTitle":"OBOB Book Copies for All Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Abbie Sykes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8449677_orig.jpg?crop=691,691,x0,y115&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1708491251637","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8449677"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88298","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":299,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.8,"schoolId":88298,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Davis Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Davis Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oregon/reynolds-school-district-7/davis-elementary-school/88298"}
