The story telling kits have allowed students to play an active role in the story, to act out parts of stories, and have facilitated story recalling. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were quick to reach to try to take their turn first. They now attend to activities for longer durations and anticipate story time during our circles. The students excitedly ask what story we are doing the following week and try to guess what our special activity is going to be, but I always prefer to surprise them!\r\n\r\nThe next steps for this project are to find additional ways to make these materials adaptive for children with significant communication disorders. These materials are versatile in many ways, however I will continue to broaden their use. I've been able to use the materials I've received with all the students on my caseload. There is a range of developmental skills, interests, and literacy targets among this large group of students. The books and manipulatives have been engaging for the students while targeting their different goals areas such as responding to WH questions, retelling a story, and describing. The games have been motivating for students by making our therapy activities a little more fun and entertaining. The word building puzzles have provided visual support to bring attention to all sound in words, and kids love putting together the puzzles. The ice cream activity has been a hit. All students have enjoyed this activity which supports turn taking, requesting, peer interactions, describing, and commenting. Myself and the students have been excited to have some new activities to use in our therapy sessions.
