These items were needed in our special education classroom to help facilitate turn taking and attending to activities with peers. The \"pop it\" book provided a great opportunity for two of our students to sit next to each other and engage in parallel play and interacted with each other. These a goals our students are working on everyday. The novelty and excitement of the book brought them to the table and together. It was a great opportunity for our teachers to work on social skills. That moment happened because of the wonderful donations of our donors!\r\nOur students really enjoyed all our new items. The colored barns with animals is a favorite item. They like to match the roof colors, take the animals in and out and put the animals on their fingers! \r\nThe crocodile dentist and Jumping Jake rabbit game was also fun! Two students were playing the rabbit game and laughing so much every time the rabbit jumped! It was great to facilitate turn taking and the students did so well! \r\nAll of our items have been useful to work on fine motor skills. The crocodile dentist game, pop it book, and pop it keychains for isolating finger point and shape puzzle, farm animal match and jumping jack game for hand strengthening. \r\nWe appreciate all your donations so much! We love giving the students more sensory opportunities in a new and different way. The light box has been helpful in giving students a calm activity to focus on to deescalate heightened sensory situations. It also has given them to opportunity to work on shapes, matching and identifying objects, number and letters in a more fun way! They love the water play with the light box and we have been working on turn taking. The lightbox is battery operated which is ideal for our classroom space. \r\n When we presented the light box to the classroom the students were excited and curious. The teaching staff demonstrated ways to use it and we worked on turn taking so each child had a chance to explore. Then we worked on sharing a space and parallel play. \r\nOur classroom staff are planning on getting more light sensory items for our classroom now that we see how positively the students have responded to the the light box. \r\nOur classroom thanks you so much for taking the time to read about our project and make a donation. The lightbox has been great for learning and exploring different educational toys and materials, for sensory play, and a way to calm children who have a variety of sensory needs. Children are drawn to the light and can often find it calming to interact with the glow of a lightbox. \r\n\r\nOur students are loving using the light box and have explored it by building with colored magnetic blocks, using squishy foam alphabet letters, and for practicing tracing vertical/horizontal lines and other shapes on it. We have noticed that the light box is keeping a child's attention for longer periods of time than other learning activities.
