Your donations help my students have more fun and engaging lessons. My students enjoy using the hands-on learning and projects to feel more connected to ancient history. With your help, my students are more excited to come to class and earn rewards for their hard work. When I first received the treats and games, they screamed with glee about earning candy and treats. 6th graders are highly motivated by food. So, as a way that I reward my students, they all receive a hot cocoa card (Barista Beck's)-for every assignment that is completed on time, they earn a stamp. Once they collect 10 stamps, they earn a prize. To celebrate, we do the prizes on Fridays about every 5-10 weeks. The kids can get hot cocoa, snacks, candy, or stickers and we watch an episode of History Channel's Mankind. This way we celebrate their learning and hard work. Because of you, our students now have access to winter gear, care items, and nourishing snacks during some of the coldest days of the year. As these materials arrived, students immediately noticed the care and intention behind them. Seeing warmth items, snacks, and wellness supplies thoughtfully organized reminded students that their school community is paying attention to their needs and wants them to feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThese resources are already being used in meaningful ways. During extremely cold weather, students who arrived without adequate winter accessories were able to receive hats, gloves, or socks discreetly. Snacks and care items have helped students stay focused and comfortable throughout the school day, especially during long mornings or after-school activities. The Spanish Club played an important leadership role by organizing and preparing the Winter Wellness Kits, turning this project into a meaningful service-learning experience that emphasized compassion, responsibility, and community support.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these supplies will continue to support students throughout the winter months, helping remove barriers to learning and ensuring that students can focus on their education rather than discomfort or hunger. Word spread quickly and before the end of the day I had an office full of students checking out the new disks and asking where the new baskets would go. The new technology allows students to practice listening, speaking, reading, and collaboration skills in an engaging, low-stress environment. Instead of viewing Spanish as something confined to a textbook, students now experience it as a living language used in real time with peers.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the opportunity to learn through play and teamwork. Games and interactive activities immediately increase participation, especially for students who may feel hesitant speaking aloud in traditional settings. I have already seen students encouraging one another, taking risks with new vocabulary, and celebrating small communication successes together. Students who are typically quieter in class have shown increased confidence and willingness to participate.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a classroom culture where learning feels inclusive, motivating, and joyful. When the DeWalt toolset arrived, my students were immediately energized; many of them leaned in, asked questions, and started brainstorming what we could build or improve around our school. Seeing professional-grade tools in our classroom shifted the tone: students began discussing teamwork, precision, and \"doing it the right way,\" not just finishing quickly. Your generosity made our hands-on program feel real and possible.\r\nSince receiving the tools, we've started launching our workshop routines: tool identification, safe handling expectations, and planning how projects will be organized into stations (measuring/planning, assembly, and finishing). Even before our first major build, students have been practicing the habits that matter most, such as taking turns, communicating clearly, respecting equipment, and holding one another accountable for safety. The tools have already created a new kind of motivation for students who thrive when learning is active and practical.\r\nOur next steps are to expand this initiative into consistent student-led projects that support our school community: classroom organization, building, repair, and improvement projects that students can take pride in. Phase 2 and Phase 3 supplies (bits, blades, sanding materials, and safety equipment) will help us maintain this program throughout the year, but Phase 1 was the essential launch point. Many donors may be familiar with using gaming systems at home for entertainment, but in our classroom the PS5 has become a powerful instructional tool. Students are using Spanish-language menus, reading in-game instructions, discussing strategies, and collaborating entirely in Spanish during gameplay moments. This has created opportunities for authentic language use that are nearly impossible to replicate through textbooks or worksheets. The excitement and engagement it brings has boosted participation from students who are often hesitant to speak up.\r\n\r\nWhat excites the students most is how natural language learning feels now. They don't even realize how much Spanish they're using because they are so immersed in the experience. Whether they're negotiating strategies during a game, celebrating a successful play, or navigating new vocabulary on the screen, students are using Spanish in meaningful, spontaneous ways. Several students who typically stay quiet in academic settings have come out of their shells during these activities, confidently using Spanish phrases as they collaborate with classmates. For them, the PS5 has unlocked a level of comfort and motivation that we hadn't seen before.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project has been watching students support one another. A few students with stronger language skills have taken on leadership roles, guiding their classmates through Spanish menus and helping translate new vocabulary that appears during gameplay. The PS5 has not only strengthened language skills, but it has also built community, confidence, and joy. Your generosity didn't just bring technology into our classroom; it brought new opportunities, new voices, and a new level of enthusiasm for learning.
