These books have already made a bigger impact than you probably realize. I teach 8th graders, and many of them come into class convinced they \"hate reading\" or haven't found a book they actually enjoy yet. Having new, high-interest books in our room has helped change that mindset for some students. The variety has allowed kids to pick topics and genres that genuinely interest them, whether that's sports, mystery, survival stories, or realistic fiction. When students feel like they have choices, they're much more willing to give reading a chance.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks different for every student, and these books help support all kinds of readers. Some students sit quietly and read independently, while others listen to audiobooks and follow along with the physical book. We spend time talking about books with classmates, making recommendations, and practicing skills like analyzing characters, understanding themes, building vocabulary, and using evidence from the text to support ideas. More importantly, students are building confidence and beginning to see reading as something they can do instead of something they avoid.\r\n\r\nA few students have especially connected with these new books already. I have students who rarely finished books before who are now asking if they can keep reading during free time or borrow books to take home. One student who loves sports became excited after finally finding books connected to his interests, and another student who struggles with reading has been successful listening to audiobooks while following along in the text. Seeing students feel successful and engaged with reading has been incredibly rewarding. Thank you again for helping create a classroom where more students can find books that matter to them.","fullyFundedDate":1773000091142,"projectUrl":"project/stocking-shelves-sparking-minds/10128607/","projectTitle":"Stocking Shelves, Sparking Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McConnell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10455694"},{"teacherId":2622729,"projectId":9453124,"letterContent":"My students often come to school hungry and go home to not enough food. It is very difficult to focus and concentrate when your stomach is empty. The snacks that you provided through your generous donations, allowed my students to satisfy this basic need to have something to eat. The fact that all of the snacks were individually packaged, gave my students the dignity and independence to select a snack without having to ask me to get it for them and to get it when they needed it. This allowed my students to get what they needed with minimal disruption so that they could focus their attention on the important academic work they need to do to make progress at school.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to know that strangers who don't know them were willing to share their money to purchase these snacks for them.
