It is very difficult to focus and concentrate when your stomach is empty. The snacks that you provided through your generous donations, allowed my students to satisfy this basic need to have something to eat. The fact that all of the snacks were individually packaged, gave my students the dignity and independence to select a snack without having to ask me to get it for them and to get it when they needed it. This allowed my students to get what they needed with minimal disruption so that they could focus their attention on the important academic work they need to do to make progress at school.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to know that strangers who don't know them were willing to share their money to purchase these snacks for them. My 6th grade classes used some of the bins and frisbees for target and throwing relays. The easiest relay rounds were when a teammate was next to the bin to smack the frisbee into it for more points. 7th and 8th grade classes worked on their frisbee skills, precision, and teamwork during a double elimination tournament. A middle school student who is blind also had a great time using the equipment! By putting a beeping device inside a can, the student was able to practice throwing the frisbee at the can. They even made it into the can - SLAM DUNK! High school classes have yet to play, but it will be in a similar format to the 7-8th unit.
