By programming Artie to draw shapes and designs, students practice sequencing, loops, and angles in a hands-on way that makes abstract coding concepts more concrete. They also connect math skills, such as geometry, measurement, and symmetry, to real-world applications as they see Artie's movements translate into lines and patterns. Beyond math and coding, Artie fosters critical thinking and problem-solving, as students must plan their designs, predict outcomes, and debug when results don't match their expectations.","fullyFundedDate":1743044630455,"projectUrl":"project/smarty-artie-coding/9081406/","projectTitle":"Smarty Artie Coding","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3182544_orig.jpg?crop=1090,1090,x0,y112&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720899399531","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amy-moye"},{"teacherId":3182544,"projectId":9050382,"letterContent":"I can't say enough about how much of a difference having headphones has made for my students. Before we had easy access to them, it was a challenge to keep everyone focused, especially during independent or digital learning activities. Now, with headphones available, I've seen such a positive shift in how my students engage and learn.\r\n\r\nFor starters, headphones help cut out distractions. When students put them on, it's like they step into their own personal learning bubble. Whether they're listening to instructional videos, working through interactive lessons, or using educational apps, they stay locked in and less likely to get off-task.\r\n\r\nHeadphones have also been a game changer for differentiated instruction. Not all of my students learn the same way or at the same pace, and with headphones, they can take control of their learning. Some listen to audiobooks while others go over math lessons again — and they can all do so without disturbing each other.\r\n\r\nWhat really stands out to me is how headphones promote inclusion. For students who use assistive technology, need calming background sounds, or require text-to-speech tools, headphones give them privacy and comfort. It's amazing to watch them work with more confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nEven beyond academics, I've noticed that giving students responsibility for their headphones encourages them to take ownership of their learning materials and space. They've learned how to care for them and use them respectfully, which is another valuable skill.\r\n\r\nIn short, headphones have become an essential part of our classroom. They help my students focus, learn in ways that work for them, and feel empowered. It's a simple tool, but the impact is huge.","fullyFundedDate":1737129348780,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-to-support-focused-learning/9050382/","projectTitle":"Headphones To Support Focused Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3182544_orig.jpg?crop=1090,1090,x0,y112&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720899399531","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amy-moye"},{"teacherId":3182544,"projectId":8674835,"letterContent":"The Benchmark Readers lessons have proven to be highly effective in improving 4th-grade students' reading skills. Teachers have observed significant growth in comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary development as students engage with structured, leveled texts that meet their individual learning needs.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest successes of the program is its ability to support differentiated instruction. Struggling readers benefit from guided reading strategies and scaffolding, while more advanced students are challenged with deeper comprehension questions and critical thinking tasks. This ensures that all students, regardless of their reading level, make measurable progress.\r\n\r\nStudents also show increased engagement with reading. The interactive nature of Benchmark Readers, including discussions, graphic organizers, and text-dependent questions, keeps students actively involved in their learning. Many students develop greater confidence in their ability to decode and analyze texts, which translates into stronger participation in classroom discussions and improved performance on assessments.\r\n\r\nAnother area where Benchmark Readers has had a positive impact is vocabulary acquisition. By exposing students to academic and content-specific vocabulary in a meaningful context, they develop a stronger understanding of new words, which supports reading comprehension and writing skills.\r\n\r\nOverall, Benchmark Readers lessons have been successful in enhancing students' literacy skills, fostering a love for reading, and preparing them for more complex texts in higher grades. The structured approach, combined with engaging materials and targeted support, makes it a valuable tool in 4th-grade reading instruction.","fullyFundedDate":1734033467476,"projectUrl":"project/my-benchmark-readers/8674835/","projectTitle":"My Benchmark Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3182544_orig.jpg?crop=1090,1090,x0,y112&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720899399531","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amy-moye"},{"teacherId":3182544,"projectId":8694361,"letterContent":"The Robotics Club has had a significant impact on students' enthusiasm for learning, particularly in STEM fields. Your generosity has made such a difference, and I'm excited to share how these materials are impacting my students!\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting additions to our classroom has been the fluorescent light covers. The moment my students walked in and saw the soft, calming light, their reactions were priceless! Instead of the harsh glare from the overhead lights, the room now has a much more soothing and inviting atmosphere. Several students immediately commented on how much more comfortable their eyes felt, and I noticed an almost instant improvement in focus and engagement.\r\n\r\nThese light covers have been especially beneficial during independent reading time and group work. One student even said, \"It feels like a whole new classroom!\" It's amazing how something as simple as changing the lighting can create such a positive learning environment.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are incorporating these new resources into our daily routines, making our classroom a more comfortable space for learning.
