They couldn't wait to start using them.\r\n\r\nFor the first day of our Middle Ages unit, the students got to wear all of the fancy \"royal\" clothing (crown, robe, scepter) and have the castle decorations out. The scepters were used as pointer sticks as they read, and it really helped get some excitement going for the reading we would be doing. For the following days, the class would spin a wheel to decide which royal item they would get to use doing reading that day. They knew that if they wanted to continue to use those royal items, they needed to show that they were doing their best \"royal\" reading, so it really motivated them all to participate as we read each day. \r\n\r\nI feel that these materials really helped not only to make our unit more exciting, but also to help my 4th graders become better readers. These decodable texts have been especially beneficial for students who require repeated exposure to achieve automaticity in foundational reading skills.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the introduction of whisper phones has provided students with the valuable opportunity to hear themselves read. This multi-sensory approach has led to increased focus, improved fluency, and deeper phonics reinforcement.\r\n\r\nThe use of headphones for listening to audiobooks has also contributed to a growing love of reading.
