The moment they saw the new materials, their eyes lit up—especially when they recognized the fresh Lego set, which was an instant hit. Having brand-new Legos alongside our local hand-me-down Duplo blocks immediately transformed our OT space into an inviting, motivating environment where students were eager to jump right into their sessions.\r\n\r\nThe new resources are already making a noticeable difference in our daily routines and helping our students achieve the self-regulation needed to access their learning. For example, during seated tasks, the Theraband has been an absolute game-changer for sensory processing. We are using it both attached to chair legs for quiet, discrete foot-fidgeting during table work, and stretched out during sensory movement breaks to provide heavy-work muscle resistance that calms and grounds our learners.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to continue building on these foundational regulation habits as we tackle our current fine motor and motor-planning goals. Students will be using the new Legos to work on delicate pincer grasp, bilateral coordination, and finger isolation, while using the Theraband for daily pre-writing heavy-work warmups to support engagement and participation. There was an immediate sense of excitement and curiosity as we unpacked everything together. The spinny chair has been an overwhelming favorite! It gives our students the exact vestibular movement their bodies crave to self-regulate and get back into a \"ready-to-learn\" mindset. Having a dedicated bookshelf with bins transformed our space overnight. Before, our limited sensory items were tucked away or hard to access, but now, the students can clearly see their choices, take ownership of what their bodies need, and easily grab tools that help them feel grounded. \r\n\r\nWe have already put these resources to work in some incredible ways, including a seed-planting project that brought real-life learning right into our OT space. One student who previously couldn't tolerate dirt or messy textures on his hands eagerly plunged his hands directly into soil to plant seeds, asking all about the growth process! Seeing a child move from sensory defensiveness to curious, hands-on learning proves just how vital these tools are for helping our students thrive.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps are all about building long-term independence and self-advocacy. We are using these new tools to teach students how to identify their own emotional and sensory energy states before they hit a breaking point. Through daily practice in our organized space, students are learning to recognize when they need a quick sensory reset and which specific tool helps them return to a \"ready-to-learn\" state.
