My idea of improving students' reading abilities by giving them books to take home and enjoy has paid off. Students are making several years' worth of progress in reading in just under one school year. Students are asking for books to take home all the time. I am happy to have an ample supply of books by authors such as Mo Willems that they can take home and enjoy. \r\nI have been using Mo Willems books in the classroom for some time now. They appeal to struggling readers because they are easy to read, funny, and creative. Mo Willems uses the children's book format in new and exciting ways, which young readers love. \r\nYour donation helped me to order books such as the Elephant and Piggie series and the Pigeon series. Each Elephant and Piggie book contains five different stories that children love to read. Thank you again for your donation. You are changing the lives of students who need it the most.","fullyFundedDate":1746787152038,"projectUrl":"project/mo-willems-books-for-kids/9216415/","projectTitle":"Mo Willems Books for Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Goldstein","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9873013_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736972287797","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9873013"},{"teacherId":9873013,"projectId":9107910,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kindness. As a special education teacher in Baltimore city it is important for me to keep students engaged with reading as much as possible. That is why it is hard to overstate the importance of this project that I have taken on this school year. \r\n\r\nMy project this school year has been to give away as many books as possible. But not some secondhand books from a milk crate that have been through a hundred other hands. I want to give them brand new books that they actually enjoy reading. Thanks to your donations that is exactly what I've been doing. The benefits have been outstanding. My students' reading levels this year have soared. Special education students are making a year or more of progress in reading. Their enthusiasm for reading has never been greater, and for this I cannot thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1742921734952,"projectUrl":"project/home-library-for-struggling-readers/9107910/","projectTitle":"Home Library for Struggling Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Goldstein","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9873013_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736972287797","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9873013"},{"teacherId":9873013,"projectId":9041753,"letterContent":"Thank you all so much for donating to my project. Research shows that students who own books they can read at home are more likely to become good readers. Already this school year my students have made huge growth in their reading because of the books I have been giving them. \r\nReading in my classroom is very important. I use a phonics-based program with my students, which is great, but the stories in the phonics books are not always interesting. I have found that supplementing with \"real\" books, such as Dr Seuss or Dog Man books, keep kids engaged in reading. They love the rhymes in Dr Seuss books. They love the illustrations and hilarious dialog in Dog Man. These books are perfect for struggling readers in 4th and 5th grade.\r\nThank you so much for your positive impact on my classroom. These books go directly into the hands of students for them to take home and keep. These students are able to enjoy books at home, at their own reading level. Students will find that reading books they enjoy at home is the key to being a successful reader. \r\nIn my special education classroom, I use a phonics program to teach struggling readers. While this phonics program is very helpful, it does not present students with very interesting stories. Each story they encounter in their textbook is compose of words they should be able to decode, based on previous lessons. While this is great for building their decoding skills, it does not always result in the best texts for students to read. I have found that building their decoding skills in the classroom while giving them easy, fun texts to read at home is a great way to engage students with reading. \r\nYour donation makes it easy for my 4th and 5th grade special education students to bring home fun, entertaining and readable books. Thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1736381729767,"projectUrl":"project/give-my-kids-books-to-take-home/9004486/","projectTitle":"Give My Kids Books to Take Home","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Goldstein","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9873013_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736972287797","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9873013"},{"teacherId":123085,"projectId":8611092,"letterContent":"The donation of headphones significantly enhanced the computer time and learning experience for first-grade students in a Baltimore City public school. With access to individual headphones, students were able to fully engage with educational software, interactive lessons, and digital reading programs without the distraction of surrounding noise. This increased focus allowed them to better comprehend instructional content tailored to their individual learning levels. Teachers also reported greater ease in managing classroom technology use, as students could independently navigate through lessons while minimizing disruptions to their peers. As a result, students demonstrated improved concentration, comprehension, and overall enjoyment during their computer time.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the headphones provided opportunities for differentiated instruction, ensuring that each child could access personalized learning resources that addressed their specific needs. Students who required extra language support benefited from clear audio during phonics and language development programs, while others could practice math, reading, and problem-solving at their own pace. The availability of headphones also fostered a more inclusive learning environment, as children with auditory sensitivities or attention challenges were better able to focus and participate. By removing barriers to learning, the donation not only supported academic growth but also encouraged confidence and independence in the students' educational journeys.","fullyFundedDate":1728312669390,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-tiny-geniuses-blocking-o/8611092/","projectTitle":"Headphones for Tiny Geniuses: Blocking Out Distractions","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gilmore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp123085_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y656&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659643056966","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/clare-gilmore"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_106285","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":210,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":85,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.0,"schoolId":106285,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Creative City Public Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Creative City Public Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/creative-city-public-charter-school/106285"}
