As a foreign language teacher, I am always looking for creative and meaningful ways to engage my students with the Spanish language and culture, and thanks to your support, I now have powerful new tools to do just that.\r\n\r\nThe books I selected with your help are being used in a variety of ways—to introduce and practice vocabulary, explore cultural traditions, and highlight the lives of influential figures from the Spanish-speaking world. These texts are rich in language and meaning, and they provide authentic, age-appropriate content that sparks curiosity and conversation. Through stories, biographies, and picture books, students are learning not only new words but also new perspectives.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is a dynamic and interactive experience. I often begin lessons with a read-aloud, using the text as a way to build background knowledge and set the tone for the day's vocabulary. As we read together, students listen for key words, repeat phrases, and participate in comprehension activities that help deepen their understanding. These read-aloud sessions often turn into lively discussions—students make connections to their own lives, ask thoughtful questions, and even begin to use new vocabulary in their own sentences.\r\n\r\nThe new books have truly transformed this part of our learning. For example, when we read about figures like Frida Kahlo or Tito Puentes students not only learn new Spanish words but also gain insight into the challenges and contributions of these important individuals.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have shown a special enthusiasm for the new texts. One student, Diego, who was initially hesitant to participate in Spanish class, has become very engaged during read-alouds. He lights up when we read nonfiction texts and often volunteers to help read short passages aloud to the class. Another student, Emma, who is working on her pronunciation and vocabulary, has fallen in love with a picture book about traditions in Latin America.\r\n\r\nThese books have made my classroom a more vibrant and inclusive place. Students feel proud when they see their cultures represented, and those who are new to Spanish are more willing to take risks and participate. Your donation helped make this possible, and I am truly grateful.\r\n\r\nReading is one of the most powerful ways to build language and bridge cultural understanding. Because of your generosity, my students are not only growing as language learners, but also as empathetic and curious global citizens. Thank you for making a difference in our classroom—you have planted the seeds for a lifelong love of language and learning.","fullyFundedDate":1744239080863,"projectUrl":"project/espaol-through-reading/9037918/","projectTitle":"Español Through Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1723624_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683475666294","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1723624"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60249","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1045,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":30,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":60249,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Craig Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Craig Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/gwinnett-county-public-schools/craig-elementary-school/60249"}
