My students were so excited when they saw the resources as they were being unboxed. All I could hear was \"wow, that is so cool! Can we play with it!\" The joyful excitement was palpable! \r\n\r\nOnce again, the Magna-tiles were a one of the most popular resources in our classroom. With the magnetic cubes they created and built robots, buildings, superheroes or whatever they could imagine. We had dinosaurs chasing bears, or bears climbing mountains. We also had penguins, lions, and tigers in a kid created zoo. Later on as part of our science unit students got to see the real lions, penguins and tigers when we had a field trip to the zoo. A few students had never visited the zoo! \r\n\r\nWe also used the magnetic cubes in my math center. Here students could make towers and compare heights and quantities. This center allowed for hands on learning by bring the abstract to a concrete representation of greater than, less than. We did addition by adding one more, one less. It was awesome watching students succeed in learning these math concepts. \r\n\r\nWith the tempera cake paints my students drew and painted beautiful lions after our field trip to the zoo. Spring flowers were also painted to beautify our room after we learned about spring and plants. I love how these resources make our learning more relevant by connecting what we are learning to what they create. \r\n\r\nI genuinely believe that the resources I purchased because of your generous donations have made a big difference in our classroom. They have been scooping and sorting and building and creating since I first opened the boxes. Students have been taking turns moving the magnetic ramps and magnet funnels around on the magnetic board to create different mazes! They've been adjusting and testing and readjusting and experimenting as they play. It has been such a delight to watch them engage with the materials.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials there were squeals of delight! I let each student experiment with dropping 10 balls in the maze to see what it could do then told them they could keep experimenting on their own in small groups. Other students went immediately to the light table and scooped, poured, and dumped the new sensory materials into various containers and talked about how much each could hold as they served each other \"milkshakes\" and \"coffee.\"\r\n\r\nHaving the chance to interact with STEM materials in a variety of ways helps increase understanding with new concepts as well as creating another topic to discuss with each other. through experimenting, students learn what works and what doesn't and they share their learning with one another.","fullyFundedDate":1741030692304,"projectUrl":"project/prek-learning-through-stem-exploration/9137194/","projectTitle":"PreK learning through STEM Exploration","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bower","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/laura-bower"},{"teacherId":2027644,"projectId":8752171,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your incredibly generous donations. Your support has meant so much to our students and has brought a sense of joy and excitement to their classroom.\r\nMy students were so excited when they saw the boxes of materials but on the day, I told them they were going to choose and wear their own superhero cape, well the joy on their faces was beyond excitement. The joy radiating as they put them on was priceless! These capes have sparked so much creativity and imagination in our classroom. They've become an integral part of our learning activities, whether it's during dramatic play or as part of our social-emotional development exercises or just because we want to show we are kind, brave, or responsible. It's amazing how something so simple can have such a profound impact.\r\nThanks to your kindness, our students now have yet another way to explore their sense of self and experience the world through play. These capes aren't just fun; they also provide an opportunity for them to practice sharing, cooperation, and even leadership. The excitement and engagement have been remarkable, and it's all because of your support. \r\nAs for the piƱata, my students are excited and looking forward to celebrating Children's Day come April followed by decorating their own picture frame and adding their very own graduation picture. I have no doubt they will cherish these forever. \r\nOnce again, thank you for making a difference in the lives of our young learners.
