One of our favorite activities this month has been our \"Word Builder Stations.\" Students rotate between phonics cards, sight-word games, Play-Doh word modeling, and their personal whiteboards. During one rotation, a student who usually hesitates to read aloud proudly used his whiteboard to tap out and write three new sight words. He was so excited that he asked to show the entire group—and they all cheered for him. Moments like this are exactly why these materials make such a difference.\r\n\r\nThe day the supplies arrived felt like a celebration. My students gasped when they saw the colorful phonics tools, the fresh whiteboards, and (their absolute favorite!) the new Play-Doh. Several students immediately started talking about what they wanted to build to \"practice reading and math.\" For many of them, having materials that feel fun and hands-on helps learning feel safe and exciting. Their faces lit up, especially when they realized these tools were just for them—thanks to people who believe in their success.\r\n\r\nWe're now launching a multi-week \"Readers and Problem-Solvers\" unit, where students will use the whiteboards daily during small-group instruction to practice stretching out words, solving math problems, and checking their own work. The phonics and sight-word activities will be central to helping them build fluency, while the sensory Play-Doh will support fine-motor development and keep them engaged. As students gain confidence with these skills, we'll move into simple sentence writing and more complex math problem-solving. These new materials are giving them the foundation—and the motivation—to take those next steps with excitement.","fullyFundedDate":1760382297671,"projectUrl":"project/sounds-to-sums-hands-on-fun/9820479/","projectTitle":"Sounds to Sums Hands-on Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Barreiro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10217672_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y51&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760314438294","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10217672"},{"teacherId":970179,"projectId":9639116,"letterContent":"My students have absolultey loved having our new puzzles, games, and brain teasers in our classroom! There are also opportunities occasionally for students who finish work early to choose one of the activities to do independently while other students complete work.\r\n\r\nI have witnessed students playing the games and working on the puzzles with children they otherwise might not interact with often. Their common interest in certain games and brainteasers has helped them form connections with other children in a positive, social-skill building manner. Using our Leader in Me skills, students are also working together to think win-win and using their compromising skills so everyone gets to play the games they are interested in.\r\n\r\nThese resources purchased with your donation will be long-lasting in my classroom and I look forward to my current students and students for years to come continuing to challenge their brains, grow their critical thinking skills, and create social connections with their peers.","fullyFundedDate":1756043400675,"projectUrl":"project/puzzles-and-games-to-challenge-our-brain/9639116/","projectTitle":"Puzzles and Games to Challenge our Brains","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shelbaugh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/970179"},{"teacherId":10258918,"projectId":9711133,"letterContent":"STEM challenges engage students, help reinforce what we are learning in class, and help students develop problem solving skills. It was an amazing thing to witness. They are willing to work hard for these items and get what they want when they want and need it. \r\n\r\nThese items are helping us give rewards such as working on their classwork, small group work, doing well in other activities and when they get to be hungry, we have something they can fill their bellies with. It is hard to always provide the snacks for them as it can get expensive, so you gracious hearts and donations have been so appreciated by staff and children alike. After completing an ALEKS pie slice, students get to add two beads and create a croc bracelet, necklace, or keychain! Watching them carefully choose their colors and proudly show off their finished pieces has been the sweetest part of our routine. The yoga balls have also been a huge hit. They've given my students a fun, flexible way to stay focused during independent work, and you can truly see how much more engaged and comfortable they feel.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. The kids were obsessed from the moment they saw the Bead Bar, several of them started planning their bead designs before I even finished explaining what it was for! With our special education unit, we run into quite a bit of time consuming problems that we end up distracted from other things. So, for the tardiness of this thank you, I truly apologize.\r\n\r\nWhen it comes to our students and their uses of the items you have supplied for us, they are using them all day long. Whether it be during scheduled sensory time or just a sensory break, snack time, and during our curriculum time. Your funding allowed us to get markers and crayons for our students. Currently, we just used them for a Veteran's Day craft for our schools Veteran's Day Breakfast. The biggest help was all of the sensory items. Our kids still use them on the daily. We needed to replace a lot of our tools from last year, and this really was the biggest help! We truly cannot thank you enough! \r\n\r\nThe students got so excited when they saw us opening new items for sensory times. They truly love feeling so special getting the new items. We have quite a few visual sensory seekers, so the Learning Resources Fidget Tubes were a huge hit with our kids. They also loves the kit of so many fidgets! Sensory seeking is huge in our unit and all of the fidget items and sensory tools are just so helpful. \r\n\r\nWe are teaching our students currently, self-regulation. Whether it be asking for a break, asking for help, asking for the tools, or all of the above. Learning to self-soothe is such a key necessity for our kids and a lot of the items we have been gifted are helping with just that.\r\n\r\nAgain, we cannot thank you all enough for these items and the help in supporting sensory needs and special education.
