Instead of guessing, they can check their work and fix mistakes on the spot. I've noticed students taking more responsibility for their learning and spending more time correcting errors instead of giving up.\r\n\r\nSome of my quieter students have really taken to it. Middle schoolers don't always show a lot of emotion, but when someone feels seen, it's obvious. One student came up quietly and asked if it was really okay to grab deodorant. When I told them yes, their whole face changed. They said, \"Thank you, I really needed this,\" and you could tell it made a big difference for her.\r\n\r\nWe also stocked lotion, Chapstick, and snacks for students who come to school hungry. Those small things have made the classroom feel calmer and kinder. Instead of sitting uncomfortable or distracted, they can grab what they need and get back to learning. It has actually improved focus and participation, especially on those long afternoons.\r\n\r\nThe closet has turned into this quiet little act of self-care for students, something that makes them feel safe and supported. Our next step is simply to keep reminding scholars that this space exists for them, and that our classroom is a place where they don't have to worry about basic needs getting in the way of learning.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our kids and helping us create something meaningful. Its impact is growing and will continue to reach students at Spring Valley Elementary and even the local high school. This project has gotten kids outside and experiencing nature in such a great way. \r\n\r\nOne of our club members and students suffered a whole house fire during the school year and his family lost everything. This young man was so thankful to have equipment provided to him during the school year. His dad was even able to participate and have equipment to use! We had another set of brothers who had no equipment of their own own able to fish because of our generous donors. \r\n\r\nThe most exciting part was how we were able to give out four of the Mystery Tackle boxes as prizes for \"Most Improved\", \"The Biggest Fish\", \"Most Eager\" and \"First Fish Ever!\" This project brought out leadership opportunities in some of the boys and they were even involved in assigning the end of the year awards for awards day.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for all of your generosity. I loved watching them problem-solve, get creative, and cheer each other on. Our strongest bridge held 188 pounds, and we were all shocked.\r\n\r\nNow we're reflecting on what worked and what didn't. A lot of them are already thinking about how they'd redesign and improve their bridges. The excitement on their faces when they were ready to work on them was priceless. The focus, calmness, and engagement this activity brought to my students was a so amazing to witness.\r\n\r\nAfter they completed them, they were so proud to see them on the windows. Our Open House is scheduled for next week and I can't wait to see our parents/families see the beautiful Ancient Indian mandalas they colored.
