I can't believe how quickly this project got funded. We were in such need of markers and colored pencils, and now the two drawers are full! The students use these materials daily for fun projects we do in Science and Health. They love to sketch in pencil first, trace their work in markers, and then erase the pencil marks! \r\nFor example, we do weekly \"kind kid\" cards for a classmate and they decorate it after they wrote something nice about the person. These always come out so nice. We also just learned about the lungs and brain, and we drew, labeled, and colored some diagrams of those.\r\nThe students are starting to take more pride in their work and are putting in the extra effort. I am so proud of them. The zipper file bags and binders have helped students keep their work materials sorted and accessible, while the clipboards allow us to work flexibly around the room during reading groups, partner work, and independent practice. The pencils, erasers, markers, sticky notes, and dry-erase supplies have been especially helpful during daily writing and brainstorming activities, giving students the tools they need to fully participate and express their ideas.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were beyond excited. They immediately noticed the colorful clipboards, new books, and fresh supplies and were eager to use them. The Wild Robot series and other novels like The One and Only Ivan and Finding Winnie quickly became student favorites, sparking conversations, predictions, and excitement for reading. One of my favorite moments was watching students carefully choose books from the new collection and settle in to read, knowing these stories were made possible because someone believed in them.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be using these materials as we continue our literacy units focused on reading comprehension, discussion, and written responses. The easel pads, sticky notes, and laminated materials will support group lessons and anchor charts, while the novels will be used for read-alouds, book clubs, and independent reading.
