These books have been a great addition to my classroom. I strive not to only teach my students reading, writing and math, but to help them become good humans. While it is great to be a smart and capable, you need to be a good person to use these assets for good. By reading these books it helps students learn empathy and kindness towards others who may be different from them. It also teaches that through perserverance and hardwork anything is possible. These are skills that will help my students not only in life but in their schoolwork. \r\n\r\nBy reading these books together we share the experience of how life is for the various characters. It has brought about great discussions on how we treat others based on what we see, what others who are different are capable of and the impact our words and actions can have on others. Through these discussions students are seeing life from others perspectives. Having these deeper converstaions has helped my students analyze, expand and critically think about text and make real world connections with what they are reading.","fullyFundedDate":1739371423354,"projectUrl":"project/through-the-eyes-of-others-learning-emp/9044092/","projectTitle":"Through the Eyes of Others, Learning Empathy, Understanding and Acceptance","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Resendiz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2132056"},{"teacherId":9355237,"projectId":8897502,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible generosity, Cochiti Elementary School's 4th Annual Invention Convention was a resounding success—an especially meaningful one for our Title One school community! The classroom was empty, with the bare minimum, and my students deserved more! \r\n\r\nThe students are now using their white boards and erasers when doing whole group discussion during Math and Language Arts, which helps me formatively assess their levels at a glance. Students also now have headphones that allow them to work independently on mandatory online progress monitoring apps and assessments. Students needed the clorox wipes to keep their desks and classrooms clean and keep down the viruses during flu season, and they appreciated this donation a lot because we also had ants and the classroom was not cleaned. \r\n\r\nOnce again, I deeply appreciate your donations of the white boards, erasers, dry erase markers, Clorox wipes, and headphones. Headphones are a vital part of my students' daily routines, and your donation has truly made a difference in their learning experience. \r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, my students were filled with curiosity. \"What's in the boxes, Mrs. G?\" they eagerly asked. As I explained that three generous people had donated items for our class, their eyes lit up with excitement and wonder. I took this opportunity to teach them about the meaning of donations and the kindness behind them. Almost every hand shot up as they excitedly engaged in the discussion, sharing their guesses about what might be inside—everything from art supplies to crayons to whiteboards. \r\n\r\nWhen I revealed that the boxes contained *new headphones with stands*, their excitement was palpable. \"Open the boxes, Mrs. G!\" they cheered. Although they had to wait a few days to use them, I explained the importance of responsibility—these headphones are theirs to care for and use for the rest of the school year. \r\n\r\nOnce they began using the headphones during rotations, the students shared how much they loved them, noting how comfortable they are and how much clearer they can hear.
