We are so thankful for this new instrument! In fact, the original one that I asked for was out of stock so I ended up having to get a different soprano xylophone (same brand) that was a little less expensive. This allowed me to also get another set of maracas and castanets (seen in the pictures). Having another soprano xylophone has helped out tremendously. It has allowed for more students to have their own instrument when using the barred instruments in class. It has been very helpful in my larger classes to have another xylophone. Just one extra instrument can allow for so much more time on task for students. None of my classes now have to have three to a xylophone and it is because of your generosity! \r\nMy students were so excited when they saw we had a new xylophone! It came at the perfect time because third and fourth grade students were beginning to prepare for a holiday concert in December. One of our songs included a xylophone accompaniment and I was able to pick one more student to showcase their talents at the performance since we had another xylophone to use. \r\nAs the year goes on, we will continue to use this xylophone for accompanying songs, creating music, improving, and sound stories. My younger students (kindergarten and first grade) will begin using the xylophones soon as they haven't had a chance to do so this school year. It will be nice for every one of those students to have their own instrument to play! The kids in my EC classes have been so excited to see all of the new items for our lessons. They especially love the parachute. We've had such a blast using it. Some of the kids like to sit under the parachute while others like to shake the parachute to the steady beat and gather the soft balls that we bounce in the middle. There were shrieks of delight the first time we used the parachute. It has brought so much joy to these kids. \r\nWe've used the lollipop drums quite a bit since receiving them. The kids really like them and are easier for some to hold which is great! We use them to echo patterns and play the steady beat with the music.\r\nThe ribbon wands are used every week with my students. We spend the last 10 minutes of their 45 minute class moving to the music with the wands. They absolutely love them and were so excited to she the new colors/patterns. \r\nThe only thing I have not used yet are the two person parachutes. I plan to use them in the spring. I showed their teachers and assistants and they agreed that the kids would love using them. Thank you so much for your generosity. My students were so excited to see that we now have a third tubano drum! It has been so amazing to have this drum to use in our lessons.\r\nWe have used this drum quite a bit. At the end of the year last year, we used the drum to perform sound stories. Instruments were assigned to characters from a story and then students performed/improvised a rhythm when their character was mentioned. Students had a blast using this drum! We also used this drum in a percussion rotation. A variety of percussion instruments were set up in a snake formation and students rotated throughout each instrument. We used the tubano drum in this rotation. \r\nNext week I will be using this drum with 5th grade to do some improvisation during a call and response activity and I cannot wait to see what the students come up with! Thank you for your generosity and for selecting this classroom to help fund a project. As we are a newer school, we have been working hard on increasing our instrument inventory and this would not be possible without all of you! The students have gone crazy over this new tubano drum! It is only the second one to be added to our classroom and it is bigger than the first one. The kids love it and were so excited to learn that we had acquired another one. \r\n\r\nWe have used this drum for many activities. Most recently, third grade used this drum for a sound story and one character from the story was performed on the tubano drum. A student in each classroom was able to improvise a rhythm phrase every time they heard their characters name. In another lesson, students used a variety a drums, including this tubano drum to play a rhythm pattern to accompany a song. The students rotated throughout the song so every student in that grade level was able to play on the tubano drum. Next week, students will be using this drum in a rhythm activity while learning about the percussion family. I can't to see all the exciting things we will be able to do next year with this tubano drum!","fullyFundedDate":1739549244627,"projectUrl":"project/totally-tubano-again/8980283/","projectTitle":"Totally Tubano Again!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Howard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2428581_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1458922251843","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jessica-howard"},{"teacherId":2428581,"projectId":8919524,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity and your help in funding this project. We have been working hard on increasing our instrument inventory and this would not be possibly without all of you! My students get incredibly excited every time I should them something new from this project. There are two instruments that we will not use until the spring when we do sound stories (the chimes and gong) and I know my students are going to be over the moon about these instruments in particular. My older students have really enjoyed using the 3 tone block, large guiro, and the rainbow mallets and my younger students have really enjoyed the new sand scrapers- they love the large red handles! \r\nThese instruments have been very helpful during our rhythm lessons over the last 6 weeks. I allow students to pick instruments when performing a composition or playing the rhythms of a song and it has been really nice to them to have a wider selection to choose from. \r\nDuring the month of December, students in 3rd and 4th grade were able to use the maracas and castanets during their lessons on Las Posadas. Having the extra pair of maracas and castanets helped in having less children sharing and more time on task. This was very helpful!
