My students were so excited to see that we now have a third tubano drum! It has been so amazing to have this drum to use in our lessons.\r\nWe have used this drum quite a bit. At the end of the year last year, we used the drum to perform sound stories. Instruments were assigned to characters from a story and then students performed/improvised a rhythm when their character was mentioned. Students had a blast using this drum! We also used this drum in a percussion rotation. A variety of percussion instruments were set up in a snake formation and students rotated throughout each instrument. We used the tubano drum in this rotation. \r\nNext week I will be using this drum with 5th grade to do some improvisation during a call and response activity and I cannot wait to see what the students come up with! Thank you for your generosity and for selecting this classroom to help fund a project. As we are a newer school, we have been working hard on increasing our instrument inventory and this would not be possible without all of you! The students have gone crazy over this new tubano drum! It is only the second one to be added to our classroom and it is bigger than the first one. The kids love it and were so excited to learn that we had acquired another one. \r\n\r\nWe have used this drum for many activities. Most recently, third grade used this drum for a sound story and one character from the story was performed on the tubano drum. A student in each classroom was able to improvise a rhythm phrase every time they heard their characters name. In another lesson, students used a variety a drums, including this tubano drum to play a rhythm pattern to accompany a song. The students rotated throughout the song so every student in that grade level was able to play on the tubano drum. Next week, students will be using this drum in a rhythm activity while learning about the percussion family. I can't to see all the exciting things we will be able to do next year with this tubano drum!","fullyFundedDate":1739549244627,"projectUrl":"project/totally-tubano-again/8980283/","projectTitle":"Totally Tubano Again!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Howard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2428581_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1458922251843","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jessica-howard"},{"teacherId":2428581,"projectId":8919524,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity and your help in funding this project. We have been working hard on increasing our instrument inventory and this would not be possibly without all of you! My students get incredibly excited every time I should them something new from this project. There are two instruments that we will not use until the spring when we do sound stories (the chimes and gong) and I know my students are going to be over the moon about these instruments in particular. My older students have really enjoyed using the 3 tone block, large guiro, and the rainbow mallets and my younger students have really enjoyed the new sand scrapers- they love the large red handles! \r\nThese instruments have been very helpful during our rhythm lessons over the last 6 weeks. I allow students to pick instruments when performing a composition or playing the rhythms of a song and it has been really nice to them to have a wider selection to choose from. \r\nDuring the month of December, students in 3rd and 4th grade were able to use the maracas and castanets during their lessons on Las Posadas. Having the extra pair of maracas and castanets helped in having less children sharing and more time on task. This was very helpful!
