The most used resource are the calming corner SEL posters. I have created a designated space within the classroom showcasing many of the SEL posters. When a student feels upset, they go to our calm down corner as begin breathing exercises as outlined on the posters. They read the positive affirmations out loud to boost their self confidence and love. It's a vital part of my classroom that lets my students reflect on their emotions and understand all their feelings are okay. Students also use the social emotional toys within the calm down corner. It has been a great help to my first graders as they learn to regulate their emotions. \r\n\r\nAdditionally your contribution helped bring glue sticks and dry erase pocket charts into my classroom. As many teachers are aware, glue is an ever needed necessary. It's a material that is used often in crafts, cut and paste projects, etc. The binders that were included in this package are used as teacher organization. We were able to receive our pocket charts to set up around the classroom. The pocket charts are meant to help organize ourselves and to use as a learning tool that can be easily manipulated and change with each new unit of study.\r\nThe four column chart helped us learn about coins and money in our Math Unit. We were able to label the characteristics of the four major US coins. Putting it up on our pocket chart holder made it easy to move around to student tables. \r\nWe used the Vowel Team pocket chart during our phonics instruction every English morning. Each vowel team had the letters to help us build the word and had an illustration that helped our English Language learners.\r\nI think my favorite pocket chart was the \"cognates\" chart we developed for our reading unit. We are a dual language Spanish program so a strategy that helps students learn to make connections between their home language and new language is to identify cognates. Cognates are words that are similarly written and mean the same thing. It was easy to manipulate with each new unit we approached and it was buildable. We added new words as we went along each week. The students enjoyed drawing a picture to place in between the cognates, helping them understand what the word means. They would hear a cognate and say \"let's add it to our cognate chart!\".
