One of the standards we cover is surface area of shapes (square, triangle, rectangle, etc...) all the 7th grade math department teachers will borrow the magnetic tiles while teaching that lesson. I've used it to teach Pythagorean theorem, shapes, area, volume, surface area, geometry, and the list goes on. The coins and other hands-on learning have been useful in teaching fractions, ratios, and basic math facts. \r\n\r\nWhen we were working on Pythagorean Theorem, we (myself included) embarked on a journey of discovery. We used the magnetic triangle shape to prove the formula a squared + b squared = c squared. Every student was doubtful, but the tiles proved it true! There were gasps all around as they discovered something new. It was so exciting to watch their lights come on!
