Your support provided us with the essential materials—coffee, filters, cups, a cash register, and more—that have allowed our students to run a real coffee shop experience right from our classroom.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment our students saw the new supplies, their excitement was contagious. Many of them, who typically rely on others for daily tasks, now have an opportunity to take on meaningful roles. They help in ways that fit their abilities, whether it's greeting staff, handing out cups, placing orders in the register with assistance, or participating in the sensory experience of smelling and feeling the coffee materials.\r\n\r\nOne special moment that stands out was when a student learned to recognize the feel of different coffee cups and organize them by size. Another student, who usually hesitates with new experiences, eagerly reached out to hold a coffee stirrer and smiled when they felt the warmth of a freshly poured cup. These small victories mean the world in our classroom!\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to expand on these skills by introducing themed coffee days (we just did a valentine's coffee and donuts morning celebration), allowing students to engage in decision-making by selecting flavors or decorations. We're also working on increasing their independence in social interactions by encouraging simple greetings and responses during service, using our assistive technology devices and all!\r\n\r\nYour kindness is making a lasting impact, not only by providing resources but by empowering our students with confidence, purpose, and joy.
