CICS Loomis is an elementary school on the South Side of Chicago that teaches Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students. I have the absolute joy of teaching first grade to the most amazing group of bright young minds. One of my favorite parts about teaching is watching the love of reading bloom in my students, and having a library in our school is a dream come true. \r\n\r\nI will never forget the look on my students' faces when they walked through the door of our former storage room and saw shelves filled with new books featuring characters who look like them, comfortable spots to read independently or in small groups, and decorations celebrating the magical worlds opened to us through reading. Our students immediately dove into the books, eager to explore all the new adventures waiting for them.\r\n\r\nSince then, every single student at CICS Loomis has had the opportunity to experience the joy of our new library. My fellow teachers are just as thrilled as I am to have these amazing new books to share with their students. Across the school, our world of books has expanded! \r\n\r\nAt CICS Loomis, we aim to educate the whole child, giving them the skills and resources they need to thrive - in elementary school, high school, and beyond. I know that igniting a passion for reading and building strong early literacy skills are key to achieving this goal.
