The creative language in the story supports flexible thinking about words and helps students practice breaking words into syllables. Students are also building reading stamina, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills such as making predictions, visualizing, and summarizing. In addition, the book promotes lessons about friendship, kindness, and believing in yourself, which resonate strongly with my students.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and engaging, especially with the BFG. Students participate in partner reading and whole-group read-alouds using The BFG. We pause to decode tricky words as the \"gobblefunk\" language allows them to practice their phonics, and talk about the meaning of the text. Students eagerly share predictions, ask questions, and reading has become a time students look forward to rather than avoid.","fullyFundedDate":1767643277473,"projectUrl":"project/love-of-reading-series-bfg/9963831/","projectTitle":"Love of Reading Series: BFG","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10387152"},{"teacherId":9875068,"projectId":9011455,"letterContent":"The new books helped students stretch their thinking and grow more confident as readers. When the students saw the boxes of new books they were so excited! They could hardly wait for me to open them and allow them to dig in.
