Your help allowed us to reload our centers for students to continue to build and make.\r\n\r\nThe first thing they noticed was the new Chompsaw. 7th grade was in the middle of their cardboard creations projects when it came in. The tool allowed them to get more intricate with their designs because they had this tool to cut with. I also noticed kids that were struggling with other ways of cutting, had a new revived sense of making when they got to use this new tool! Each class was super impressed with what they could do.\r\n\r\nAs part of our whole school initiatives, we are looking to building reading and writing into all aspects of the school day. We just got our first set of Scholastic Art magazines that were donated. The first issue talks about sports but through an art lens which hooks so many of our kids! It also opened up an entire online library of activities and articles for us to use this year.\r\n\r\nAs for the rest of the generous supplies, students have already dug into using every supply we asked for. Perler beads were being used in 6th grade for a Pixel art project, and a new class just finished using them. Our spring semester kiddos will now have enough fun colors to do their projects as well! We were down to the very last hot glue sticks when our order appeared....such timing! In 8th grade, students incorporated supplies, including the foam clay, into their puppet builds and are now creating their performances with their buddies. 7th grade tried paper quilling this fall semester and will be trying needle felting to create ornaments for the holidays.\r\n\r\nIt has been an unusual year with our loss of funding mixed with expanded numbers of students to work with. Because of your donation, you have lowered their risk and provided for their curiosities! Thank you for making that happen!\r\nAll 6th grade students get a taste of makerspace. Their main projects include Pixel Art, Sewing Monsters, and Weaving Jellyfish. Interwoven in between, they are offered other materials to explore. \r\n7th grade kickstarted a Peace Garden display in our building that contributed to the SPARKPEACE 2025 project with students from around the world. Our students have been actively building and sharing their work together and are now coming up with their own connections and ideas! With these new resources, my students have embarked on various projects aimed at improving our school environment. One notable project involved designing a campaign to promote kindness and inclusivity. The students worked together to create colorful posters and eye-catching stickers that highlighted positive messages. They also developed a presentation that outlined their campaign, incorporating their artistic designs to engage their peers effectively. This hands-on experience not only allowed them to express their ideas creatively but also fostered teamwork and leadership skills as they collaborated on each aspect of the project.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their excitement was evident. They immediately began brainstorming ideas and sharing their thoughts about how they could use the supplies to make a difference in our school community. The sight of vibrant colors, various crafting tools, and endless possibilities sparked a wave of enthusiasm, as each student envisioned their contribution to the upcoming projects. This moment of discovery was not just about receiving materials; it was a catalyst for igniting their passion for leadership and social change.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, the next steps for my students involve refining their campaign ideas and implementing them throughout the school. Additionally, we plan to showcase their hard work and creativity to the entire school community. Your support has made an incredible difference in our classroom, and I would like to share the impact your donation has had on our students.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the books, we have seen enthusiasm and engagement of our readers. Students look forward to picking up a book, eager to dive into stories that reflect their interests and experiences. These novels have sparked lively discussions, and I've seen students bonding over shared characters, plot twists, and themes. It's clear that the high-interest, age-appropriate books have reignited their passion for reading in a way that I had hoped for, but couldn't have imagined without your support.\r\n\r\nFor many of our middle schoolers, this has been the first time they've had access to novels that are both relevant and exciting to them. We've seen an increase in the number of books being checked out from our library, and more students are finishing books at home and returning to grab new ones. This has had a positive impact not only on their literacy skills but also on their self-confidence as readers. They are becoming more independent in their reading choices, and the stories they're engaging with are fostering a love of learning and discovery.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your generosity has provided not only books but also the opportunity for our students to grow as readers and thinkers. We are truly grateful for your contribution and for the positive impact you have had on their education.","fullyFundedDate":1727462922989,"projectUrl":"project/high-interest-graphic-novels-for-middle/8577776/","projectTitle":"High Interest Graphic Novels for Middle Schoolers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Langbein","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2780777"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_67373","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":717,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":44,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.9,"schoolId":67373,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Century Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Century Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/adams-12-five-star-schools/century-middle-school/67373"}
