The various uses of the supplies provided aimed to provide students with extra materials if they needed them for class or any assignments. Our students may not always have the necessary materials to bring their ideas to life or to achieve their desired success. However, your support has allowed our students to borrow pens from my office to take notes in class or charge their laptops with the power surge before starting their day, especially if they forgot to charge the night before or were unable to do so.\r\n\r\nBeyond providing physical support, some of the items given have provided mental health support for our students. The stuffed animal has become a popular item amongst the students, especially when they come in distraught. Many have noted that it allowed them to feel calm and collect their thoughts after feeling comforted by it. It provides the time for the student to process their emotions and find the words they wish to share with me, if they feel comfortable doing so. The additional signs on the wall, as a school counselor, also let them know whether I'm available or where they can reach out for further support.\r\n\r\nThese items may be small and minimal in the larger scheme of the school year; however, they provide additional support in day-to-day activities that add up for our students. It's truly the little things that count, and the support provided made it possible by funding this project. It was a powerful and validating for them to see their names displayed next to their artwork for the entire school community to see.\r\n\r\nThis project has done more than enhance our hallway, it has boosted student confidence and taught them how art is not only created, but presented and celebrated. It has also been a learning tool for other programs that we share the hallway with. This form of display encourages others to admire but not touch or damage the work of others. As we continue rotating in new artwork, students will be encouraged to continue taking pride in their creations, pushing themselves creatively, and learning how to communicate their artistic vision to an audience.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your contributions. It was a great tool to help self-regulate breathing and a calming technique. It was also a great tool for icebreakers, as students wanted to use it and could only use it if they were willing to talk. \r\nStudents also look forward to the inspirational pens and stickers that they could use throughout the day in different classes. They were also great reminders to keep going and moving forward. The textured calming stickers were also a great hit, as students used them for breathing techniques throughout the day. They have been very appreciative of the tools provided and donated to better assist our students in moving forward past their traumas.
