Because of your funding, my 6th grade students were able to work with watercolor paints. Prior to this project, many of my students had not had the opportunity to explore watercolor techniques, especially those who do not take art as an elective course. Your contribution helped provide an enriching, hands-on experience that would not otherwise have been possible.\r\n\r\nThroughout the project, students were highly engaged and enthusiastic as they learned foundational watercolor techniques, including color blending, and brush control. They took great pride in developing their artistic skills and in producing thoughtful, high-quality work. In addition to building artistic confidence, students deepened their understanding of the ancient Maya civilization by studying the structure and meaning of Maya glyphs and then applying that knowledge in their own creative pieces. This cross-curricular experience strengthened both their historical understanding and their ability to express ideas visually.\r\n\r\nWe are excited to continue integrating these materials into future units. The paper, paints, and other supplies will allow students to create additional watercolor projects connected to our upcoming studies of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. For example, students may paint detailed maps or culturally inspired artwork to further connect visual learning with historical content.
